Religious reading: a hunter's prayer to tryphon to help our readers.

Every year, on February 14, the Orthodox Church celebrates the feast day of St. Tryphon the Martyr. He can often be seen on icons in the form of a young man with a gerfalcon sitting on his finger.

Tryphon was born in Phrygia, in the village of Kampsada, not far from the city of Apamea, in a family of pious peasants. He did not receive an education, and was engaged in grazing geese. Nevertheless, the saint from childhood became famous for his ability to cast out demons, heal ailments, and do other good deeds through prayer. Once the boy drove out with the help of prayers and God's help insects that destroy crops.

It was thanks to this miracle that the Church established a special way of turning to the holy martyr Tryphon for the expulsion of pests.

And then, being a 17-year-old youth, he cast out a demon from the daughter of the Roman king Gordian, who ruled in 238-244. At the same time, according to legend, Tryphon made the spirit that tormented the girl appear before the eyes of his father for proof. Received payment for help in the fight against demonic forces, the guy distributed on the way home to the poor.

Why did Tryphon begin to be called a holy martyr? When Decius (249-251) occupied the Roman throne, being a cruel persecutor of Christians, he wished that Tryphon should be caught and tortured until he renounced the faith. The young man was captured, hung on a rack and beaten for 3 hours. Surprisingly, the cruel executioners could not get a single groan from him.

After that, Tryphon was thrown into prison. The young man was tortured more than once, he withstood everything, but did not renounce his faith. For this he was sentenced to be beheaded with a sword. The body of the martyr was interred in the city of Campsada, and then his relics were transported to Constantinople, and then to Rome.

So, since then, Saint Tryphon has been revered as a healer, patron of hunters and wild and domestic animals.

I know about Saint Tryphon from my grandmother, she is a very religious person. She introduced me to religion. I pray to Saint Tryphon for the protection of my family, or rather, I turn to him with a request, since I don’t know the exact words of the prayer. It’s good that I found prayers on this site, I’ll learn it and now I’ll read it. I didn’t know before that I could pray to him for a successful resolution of my affairs.

Holy merciful Tryphon, pray to the Lord God for me, a great sinner. Help the great martyr of Christ me in acquiring a subsidy, help

so that everything happens in God's silence and kindness, so that there are no strife, quarrels and insults at the meeting. Wonderful is God in His Saints.

Saint Tryphon - the patron saint of hunters

When Emperor Decius, a cruel persecutor of Christians, ascended the royal throne, his eparch Aquilinus was informed that Saint Tryphon was boldly preaching Christianity. Hearing that the royal servants were looking for him, Saint Tryphon did not hide himself and gave himself into the hands of the persecutors. Brought to trial before Aquilinus, he boldly confessed his faith. Then the eparch ordered the hands of the holy martyr to be tied, hung on a tree and beaten for three hours. After this, Saint Tryphon was thrown into prison. After some time, Aquilinus once again used threats and persuasion, and then, seeing the futility of his efforts, subjected the martyr to new tortures.

When the martyr was forced to follow the horse on which the eparch went hunting, Saint Tryphon sang verses from the psalms of the prophet David. During the torment, an angel appeared before the saint with a precious crown in his hands. Seeing this, the tormentors were frightened, but Aquilinus became even more hardened. The next day he continued the torture, after which he sentenced the martyr Tryphon to be beheaded with a sword. Before his death, the saint thanked God, who strengthened him in his sufferings. The Christians wanted to bury the body of the martyr in the city of Nike, but Saint Tryphon ordered that his body be transferred to his homeland, to the village of Kampsada. Subsequently, the relics of Saint Tryphon were transferred to Constantinople, and then to Rome.

It is not for nothing that we have given the geography of the legend in such detail. The fact is that in Moscow the church of St. Tryphon in the very place where, according to legend, the falconer

miraculously got a falcon. The grove itself has long been gone, in its place is now the district of the same name, there are no ponds, which gave the name to the village that arose near the church - Naprudny. At the beginning of the XX century. the ponds became very shallow and turned into swamps, so in the 1940s they were filled up, and then residential areas grew in their place. On the site of the village stands the huge building of the Moscow Regional Research Clinical Institute, better known as the "MONIKI hospital". And the church itself, small in size in modern times, accommodating less than 100 people, dated as early as 1492 (the year of the discovery of America, for comparison), just got lost against the background of this medical colossus. Lost, but survived, and a few years ago even opened to parishioners. An elegant white stone building with a minimum of details for many centuries kept a miraculous icon with a piece of the relics of St. Tryphon and the secret of his birth. Only in the 20s of the last century, restorers discovered ancient Russian graffiti on its walls (a scratched inscription on a stone), which they managed to date back to 1492. A few more graffiti are still visible to the naked eye on the south side of the church. You can even touch it with your hand. And when entering the church, be sure to raise your head up - you will see a cross under the dome. It seems like an unnecessary reminder, and so it is clear to everyone that the cross - christian symbol. However, such domed crosses in ancient churches remind of the times of the struggle against the heresy of the Judaizers, a sect that denied the cross.

The memory of the saint remained in the Moscow topography - Trifonovskaya street is located next to the church. It goes along the bottom of the former pond, so the church and MONIKI find themselves, as it were, on a hill - a former island.

By the way, girls turn to Saint Tryphon with a request to send a good groom and barren women, so that our saint is also noticed in the field of love and marriage. And in comparison with the frivolous interpretation of Valentine's Day indiscriminately, Tryphon, it turns out, stands for traditional relationships.

Until now, historians have been arguing about why the Red Army, after suffering terrible losses in 1941-1942, gathered strength and finally defeated a powerful, technically highly equipped enemy? Some cite the great fortitude and ardent patriotism of the Soviet people as the main reason, others - the presence in the country of huge reserves, human and material, which ensured the final, decisive advantage in the war.

Probably, both of them are right ... Yes, only others hovered over the fields of battles unprecedented in their scale, Higher power who invisibly but constantly patronized our Russia ...

The day is celebrated in memory of St. Nikita of Gotha, whom the Orthodox Church venerates as great martyrs. Nikita lived in the 4th century on the banks of the Danube. Having been baptized, he began to preach Christianity among his fellow Goths. Nikita zealously denounced the sins of the pagan ruler Atanarikh, for which he was arrested and tortured. The pagans wanted to force the Christian to renounce his faith, but Nikita was firm. In the end, the martyr was sentenced to death by burning, but the fire did not scorch the body of the saint. Later, the relics of Nikita Gotha were transferred to Constantinople.

On Nikita - the last goose hunt.

Which saint will help in problems with the authorities, as well as hunting and fishing

Which saint to pray in cases of problems with superiors? Who among the Russians has long been considered an assistant in hunting and fishing? If there is a threat of dismissal or you need help in the difficulties of hunting and fishing, you need to pray to St. Tryphon.

Day of Remembrance Holy Martyr Tryphon falls on The 14th of February. He lived during the time of the first Christians, but was glorified by miracles not only during his lifetime.

At times Ivan the Terrible at the young falconer Trifon Patrikeyeva the beloved gyrfalcon of the king flew away on the royal hunt. John Vasilievich was very angry and ordered that if Tryphon's bird was not found, he would be executed. For three days the boyar searched for the gyrfalcon in all the surrounding forests, but did not find it, and after fervently praying to Saint Tryphon for help, he fell asleep. According to legend, this happened in the place where Maryina Grove is now located. In a dream, the falconer saw a young man on a white horse, holding the royal gyrfalcon on his arm and ordering him to go to the king without fear. Waking up, Tryphon really found a lost bird on the nearest pine tree. The king's wrath turned to mercy.

The fame of this miraculous event quickly spread throughout Orthodox Rus'. Since then they especially pray to the holy martyr Tryphon in cases of trouble with leaders and superiors. It was noticed that through prayer to Saint Tryphon, good luck came in hunting and fishing itself. Thus, in Rus' this saint began to be considered special protector of hunters and fishermen.

Tryphon lived in the third century in Asia Minor. He was famous for his pious life young years. He became famous for the fact that with his prayer he transferred insect pests from sown fields to wild wastelands. From the young daughter of the Roman emperor Gordian, at his request, cast out a demon. Moreover, he came out even when the young man was only approaching the sufferer. After that, the young emperor wanted to see the exiled demon and St. Tryphon ordered him to appear.

Tryphon was martyred during the persecution of Christians during the reign of Emperor Decius.

On February 14, all Orthodox hunters and fishermen celebrate the Day of their Holy Patron, the Holy Martyr Tryphon. Behind last month we have already published dozens of materials on the historiography of this holiday, having finally clarified many points that are still perversely interpreted by people who are poorly versed in this topic. Next, we tried to bring together the quintessence of St. Tryphon's Day.

As described in the Life, and abbreviated by the Church:"The holy martyr Tryphon was born in one of the regions of Asia Minor. From a young age, the Lord granted him the power to cast out demons and heal various diseases. Saint Tryphon was especially famous for casting out a demon from the daughter of the Roman emperor Gordian (238-244).

Helping all the suffering, he demanded only one payment - faith in Jesus Christ, by whose grace he healed them. When Emperor Decius (249-251), a cruel persecutor of Christians, ascended the royal throne, it was reported to Eparch Aquilinus that Saint Tryphon boldly preached faith in Christ and led many to Baptism. The saint was arrested and brought in for interrogation, during which he fearlessly confessed his faith.

He was subjected to cruel tortures, but Saint Tryphon bravely endured all the tortures, without uttering a single groan. Finally, he was condemned to be beheaded with a sword, but before the soldiers raised the sword over the head of the holy martyr, he delivered his soul into the hands of God.

This event took place in the city of Nicaea in the year 250. Subsequently, the relics of Saint Tryphon were transferred to Constantinople, and then to Rome. The holy martyr is also highly venerated in the Russian Orthodox Church."

The veneration of the Holy Martyr Tryphon in the Russian Orthodox Church is somewhat differs from the Western church, as well as iconography. We are most familiar with the Image of Tryphon from the so-called "Russian Icon", the origin of which is connected with the Legend of the falcon of the Grand Duke.

The legend has two origins - ecclesiastical and modern, inspired by a work of art. Unfortunately, in recent times, it is the version of A. Tolstoy from the "Prince of the Silver" that is called "folk" in recent times. In the same way as "folk" are called hundreds of songs that have very specific authors. This comes from the general decline in literacy caused by the "Soviet stagnation".

"People's" Moscow legend, many times reinterpreted, says that "once the sovereign's falconer, while hunting in the village of Naprudny, lost his beloved royal falcon, which caused the anger of the sovereign. The falconer was ordered to find the falcon in 3 days, otherwise he had to pay for it with his head. The falconer, having spent 3 days and completely Tired, he fervently prayed to his heavenly patron, the martyr Tryphon, and then fell asleep on the shore of the Great Pond. In a dream, Tryphon appeared to the falconer with a falcon in his hand. Waking up, the falconer saw a falcon not far from him, and returning it to the sovereign, was saved, and in that very place where Tryphon appeared, set up a votive church.

The folk tradition was reflected in the novel by A. Tolstoy "Prince Silver", which the author freely interpreted, timing the events to the reign of Ivan the Terrible, whose birth the Church in memory of the event has stood for more than half a century:

The rider rode at a trot, whistled merrily and held a white gyrfalcon in a hood and bells on a motley mitten.

Maxim recognized one of the royal falconers.

Yes, it will be a week since Adragan flew off the field! - answered the falconer, showing his gyrfalcon. - Why, you probably don’t know, Maxim Grigorievich! Well, I was already filled with fear, as the king untwisted me! May the merciful god and holy martyr Tryphon take pity on me! Showed me his miracle! - The falconer took off his hat and crossed himself. - Look, Maxim Grigorievich: the sovereign left, it will be a week, for bird fun. He let Adragan in twice; unfortunately, for the third time the foolishness found on Adragan. He began to beat the falcons, knocked down Smyshlyay and Mug, and let's pull! You wouldn't have time to count ten, as you have him out of sight. I was to ride after him, but where! Gone like it never happened. Here the falconer reported to the king that Adragan had disappeared. The king ordered to call me, and he says that you, Trishka, answer me with your head for him; if you get it - pity you, if you don't get it - off with your head! How to be! Father-king is not joking!

I went to look for Adragan; tormented for six days; I felt uncomfortable around my neck; I think I'll have to shake my head. I began to cry; wept, wept, and from grief I fell asleep in the forest. As soon as I fell asleep, a vision appeared to me, sleepy: a radiance spread among the trees, and the ringing went through the forest. And, hearing that ringing, I, sleepy, say to myself: Adragan's bells are ringing. I look, in front of me sits on a white horse, all bathed in light, a young warrior and holds Adragan on his hand: “Tryphon! - said the warrior, - look for Adragan not here. Get up, go to Moscow, to the Lazarev tract. There stands a pine tree, on that pine tree Adragan sits. I woke up, and, I don’t know why, it became clear to me that the warrior was the holy martyr Tryphon. I jumped on my horse and galloped towards Moscow. Well, Maxim Grigorievich, would you believe it? when I arrived at that tract, I see: in fact, a pine tree, and my Adragan sits on it, exactly as the saint said!

Maxim Grigorievich,” he added, wiping away his tears, “now I’ll sell all my bellies without a trace, even if I myself will go into eternal bondage, but I’ll build a chapel to the saint! I will build on the very spot where I found Adragan. And I will order the image to be written on the wall, exactly as the saint appeared to me: on a white horse, raising his hand high, and on it a white gyrfalcon.

However, historians have found that The miracle of the gyrfalcon of the Grand Duke, returned thanks to Saint Tryphon, occurred during the reign of the Grand Duke Ivan III, and it happened, most likely, with the prince Ivan Yuryevich Patrikeev (Trifon Patrikeev never existed) on Saint Tryphon's Day on February 1, old style.

In memory of which, between In 1470 and 1480, the Temple of St. Tryphon was erected in Naprudny (namely, in Naprudny, and not in Naprudnaya Sloboda, because in those days there was no Sloboda yet, but it was precisely the village of Naprudnoye) - the first temple in the history of Rus' with cross vault.

The Temple was erected by the Grand Duke Ivan III, and not by Patrikeev. In memory of this event, the princes of the Patrikeyevs received permission to depict a falcon on the official seal, and Ivan III, realizing that the Miracle was revealed precisely to Patrikeev, abolishes the image of the falconer on the coin, but in memory of the event he builds on his land the Church of the Holy Martyr Tryphon.

Probably Prince Ivan Yurievich Patrikeev he prayed to Saint Tryphon on "his" day according to the Saints, since it is customary to pray for a momentary need precisely to the patron saint of a given day. In addition, Saint Tryphon is revered everywhere precisely as the "tamer" of every creature (cattle, birds, insects). Of course, there is a possibility that the event could take place not on a given day, but on the eve, because prayers are usually sent not only on the day of remembrance of the saint, but like the name day, ahead of the next patrons on the days of the Saints.

It is possible that there was even more time between the Saint's Day and the event, because praying to Tryphon as the patron of all rural living creatures was common at any time. Tryphon is revered as the patron of "rural living creatures" because in the West his veneration is associated with the celebration of the grape harvest season (Tryphon-Zarezan), and as an "accompanying" - and all sorts of other agricultural work and animals, and at the same time as a tamer of harmful crop misfortunes.

However, be that as it may, the celebration of the Miracle on the Day established by the Saints is canonical. And we don't know exactly when the event happened. Based on all of the above, the following version of the story of the Miracle with a falcon, which was established by the Church itself, is more true: “Once, while hunting at the Great Moscow Prince, his beloved gyrfalcon flew away and he ordered the falconer to find the bird in three days under threat of death. After an unsuccessful search the exhausted falconer fell asleep in the forest under a tree, before which he fervently prayed: "Pleasure of God, whose memory the Holy Church honors today, help me find the grand-ducal gyrfalcon, deliver me from the execution that awaits me, and I vow to build a temple in your name in this place" In a dream, the falconer saw a young man on a white horse, with a missing gyrfalcon on his arm, and in the morning the missing bird really ended up on the arm of the awakened falconer.

Thus was born the Tradition about the falcon of St. Tryphon, which was reflected in heraldry and iconography. It is especially important that the bird is present in this story, and not some other creature. In those days, the royal falcons “helped” solve important state issues: before accepting important foreign policy issues, the king went hunting, and by the flight of the falcon and his “fight” determined whether his decision was right and what it would lead to. There was even a special kind of activity - bird fortunetellers. They were considered magi, predicting the future by the flight and behavior of birds. So the fact that the royal falconer dreamed of a young man with a gyrfalcon in his hand, and in the morning the bird was in his hands, could not go unnoticed - there was definitely a secret meaning in this. This is how in Ancient Rus' at the junction of paganism and Orthodoxy, ancient legends and fantastic events, this holiday was born.

Among the numerous goals and objectives of the Foundation is the revival of the celebration of the Day of St. Tryphon, which is celebrated every year by the Foundation in another of the small towns of Russia surrounded by Moscow, these were Zubtsov, Kalyazin, Venev.

However, Saint Tryphon is not the only patron of hunters and fishermen. There is a whole Cathedral of the Holy Patrons. This is the name of even a separate icon. This icon is notable primarily for the fact that it was written already in the 21st century, in 2005 with blessing His Holiness Patriarch Moscow and All Rus' Alexy II. A September 13, 2006 In the 1990s, the rector of the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Sokolniki performed the rite of consecration of an amazing and one of a kind icon of the patron saints of hunters and fishermen. Since then, this holy image has been in the Church of the Resurrection of Christ., and everyone in need has the opportunity to come and pray to their heavenly patrons or thank them for their help and intercession.

In the upper part of the holy image there are five icon-painting images. Holy Mother of God. These are the Tikhvin, Kazan, Ozeryanskaya, "Sign" and Fedorovskaya icons, especially revered by hunters and fishermen. Each of the images is associated with genuine evidence of the grace-filled help of the Queen of Heaven.

The memory of St. Tryphon in Moscow is revered not only by the restoration of churches, aisles, or icon painting. It is planned to install the sculptural composition "Holy Martyr Tryphon" on Trifonovskaya Street in Moscow. The installation project for the composition was approved at a meeting of the commission on monumental art. According to the authors of the idea, "thanks to this step, the space around the church of the Holy Martyr Tryphon will become a kind of oasis among the urbanized environment."

The composition can be installed on the territory adjacent to the temple of the icon Mother of God"Sign" and located at the address: Trifonovskaya street, 38.

“As a result, the members of the commission voted in support of the installation of the monument to the Holy Martyr Tryphon, taking into account that this will contribute to the development of the spirituality of the younger generation. Considering that this object is supposed to be located in a protected zone, this decision must be agreed with the Committee for Cultural Heritage of Moscow, - said the press service of the Moscow City Duma.

It is planned to spend 14 million rubles on the creation and erection of a monument to the holy martyr, miracle worker Tryphon in the center of Moscow, as well as on the improvement of the adjacent territory.

Glorious Tryphon, the light of the ever-present radiance was all light-seeing, you overthrew all the gloomy charm and the world-holder of darkness, deposing Divine grace. Also, pray to grant our souls peace and great mercy.

Blessed Tryphon, thou hast been honored with the joy and joy of an angel, rejected the lei of red lives, and, having imputed everything to nothing with spiritual strength, patiently committed torment, and pray for our souls.

  • The Holy Martyr Tryphon was born in one of the regions of Asia Minor - Phrygia, not far from the city of Apamea, in the village of Kampsada. His parents were simple peasants. As a child, he herded geese and did not receive an education, but as a child he cast out demons, healed ailments and did many good deeds with his prayer. Once, by the power of his prayer, Tryphon forced the harmful insects that destroyed the crops to leave, and thereby saved the inhabitants of his native village from starvation. The saint was especially famous for exorcising a demon from the daughter of the Roman emperor Gordian. A demon possessed the young princess and severely tormented her. Once he shouted that only Tryphon could expel him. The emperor ordered the miracle worker to be found and brought to Rome. Then Tryphon was 16 years old. When the saint approached Rome at a distance of three days' journey, the evil spirit could not endure his approach and left Gordian's daughter.

There is also a legend that during the reign of Tsar Ivan the Terrible, the beloved royal gyrfalcon flew away during a hunt. The king ordered the falconer Trifon Patrikeev to find the bird that had flown away and threatened him with death for failure to comply with the order. The falconer toured the surrounding forests, but to no avail. On the third day, he stopped on an island in the middle of a large pond in Maryina Roshcha and, tired from a long search, lay down to rest, zealously asking for help from his patron, the holy martyr Tryphon. In a dream, he saw a young man on a white horse, holding a royal gyrfalcon in his hand. This young man said: "Take the lost bird, go with God to the king and do not be sad about anything." Waking up, the falconer saw a gyrfalcon, which he was looking for, nearby on a pine tree. He immediately took him to the king and told him about miraculous help received by him from the holy martyr Tryphon. Soon, on the spot where the saint's appearance took place, the falconer Tryphon Patrikeyev built a chapel, and then a church in the name of the holy martyr Tryphon.

It is not for nothing that we have given the geography of the legend in such detail. The fact is that in Moscow the church of St. Tryphon in the very place where, according to legend, the falconer

miraculously found a falcon. It seems to be an unnecessary reminder, and so it is clear to everyone that the cross is a Christian symbol.

Saint Tryphon was revered in Muscovite Rus' as a healer, patron of hunters and lord of reptiles. The Orthodox Church is wary of spells and other similar forms of folk culture, but the “Spell of St. Tryphon from reptiles” is considered canonical. and various kinds of flies and mussels, and moths, and ants, and gadflies, and wasps, and polypedes, and various kinds of animals crawling on the ground, and flying birds, causing harm and vanity to fields, vineyards, gardens and gardens. ..". In general, the Colorado potato beetle covers itself with a copper basin from fear and flies back to Colorado.

The memory of Saint Tryphon Orthodox Church takes place on February 14th.
The patron saint of hunters and fishermen, Saint Tryphon, has been revered in Rus' since time immemorial. Moreover, he was so famous that in the 15th century he appeared in the coat of arms of Moscow together with George the Victorious.

The legend of the life of Saint Tryphon.
Born into a Christian family, early years adopted Christian customs. As a youth, he showed the gift of miracles, healing and relieving ailments, casting out demons. He turned to the Christian faith.
According to Greek sources, once harmful reptiles and insects were expelled by the prayer of Saint Tryphon, and thus the inhabitants of Kampsada were saved from starvation.
According to legend, he expelled the devil from Gordiana, the daughter of the Roman emperor Gordian III, who, being an idolater who, however, did not persecute Christians, sent for Tryphon after the devil, through the lips of a raging girl, declared that only the lad Tryphon could expel him. At the same time, the devil left Gordiana, sensing the approach of Tryphon, 3 days before his arrival in Rome. At the request of the emperor, Tryphon forced the devil to appear in the flesh (in the form of a black dog, which he had fiery eyes, and dragged his head on the ground), thanks to which many believed in Christ.

After the accession to the throne of the cruel persecutor of Christians Emperor Decius (249-251), Saint Tryphon was seized for boldly preaching the power of Christ and leading people to Baptism. During interrogation, Saint Tryphon was subjected to cruel tortures, but he did not renounce his faith.
For converting people to Christianity, he was convicted and sentenced to beheading. Before the execution, he thanked God for the strength and faith given to him.
Saint Tryphon was executed in Nicaea in 250.
The Christians wanted to bury the body of the martyr in the city of Nicaea. However, Saint Tryphon in a vision commanded to be transferred to his homeland in the village of Kampsada, which was done. Later, the relics of Saint Tryphon were transferred to Constantinople, and then to Rome.

Moscow legend about Tryphon and the falconer.
The popular Moscow legend says that once the sovereign's falconer, while hunting in the village of Naprudny, lost his beloved royal falcon, which caused the anger of the sovereign. The falconer was ordered to find the falcon in 3 days, otherwise he had to pay for it with his head. The falconer, having spent 3 days and completely tired, fervently prayed to his heavenly patron, the martyr Tryphon, and then fell asleep on the shore of the Great Pond. In a dream, Tryphon appeared to the falconer with a falcon on his hand. Waking up, the falconer saw a falcon not far from him, and returning it to the sovereign, he was saved, and in the very place where Tryphon appeared, he set up a votive church.

The fact that one day Saint Tryphon, having answered the falconer's prayers, helped him avoid severe punishment, and actually saved his life, made him incredibly revered, primarily in Moscow. Muscovites turned to this Saint in all joys and troubles, even young girls began to ask him for good suitors, and barren women for children. So, theoretically, the day of St. Tryphon could be considered the day of lovers, only from the point of view of Orthodox traditions, and not Catholic ones.

Andrey Shalygin: If recently someone has studied something directly related to Saint Tryphon, the history of the Celebration and the actual circumstances of life and the posthumous legitimization of the Traditions of Saint Tryphon, then, perhaps, in Russia he did not do this with a large amount of material raised, and a thorough study of the circumstances, than I did. Having spent more than five years on this work, having developed and actually created, with the help of hundreds of specialists, both the visualization and material embodiment of the monument, icon, order of the holy martyr, embroidery, bas-relief, and even delivered the relics of the Saint to Russia, I can quite competently reason on this matter, having the entirety of the information.

I also worked on reconstruction of the original Tradition about the Holy Martyr Tryphon, or rather, about his posthumous miracles, primarily related to the Russian version of the Miracle of the Falcon, separating him from Tolstoy's free-thinking, invented for the red word in Prince Serebryany, and from the good interpretations of various kinds of church well-wishers, who just need something more wonderful to wrap up. A lot of work has also been done on reconstruction of the Image of Saint Tryphon, in which, at my request, icon painters also took part different schools, clergy and clergy of the temples of the holy martyr, historians and sculptors, artists and craftsmen of Moscow and a number of Ural cities.

Bas-relief of the Holy Martyr Tryphon - the patron saint of hunters and fishermen.

As a result of the work done, the artistic and monumental part of which I entrusted to the most famous Zlatoust masters in Russia, the Lokhtachev family. Namely, Alexander Ivanovich created the Image of the Saint according to the verbal description and instructions provided by me. And this image was later submitted to me for approval by his son and the General Director of the LiK Workshops Andrey Lokhtachev many times, and we spent many hours to combine Tradition, anthropometry, the Canon and church instructions to icon painters.

Bas-relief of St. Tryphon - made by the clergy and clergy of the Temple in Naprudnaya. The most correct image of Saint Tryphon in accordance with the current canon. Photo - Andrey Shalygin. The icon is a gift to the author from the Rector of the Temple.

In the course of recreating the Image, from the original, almost Roman appearance, we nevertheless approached the image of a young shepherd of geese by the lake, a young man, who was described as follows in the pre-revolutionary Manual on icon painting, namely in the manual for writing icons of the saint: "Like a Roman, young, about 23 years old, a shepherd of geese by the lake, with a piercing beard, in a shirt a little below the knees, on top of an epancha with a doll, as the shepherds wore, coarse clothes, barefoot, thin face, curly hair. right hand he can also write a falcon according to the miracle he performed in Moscow.

As a result, the case ended a year ago with the creation of the first monument in Russia to the Holy Martyr Tryphon, which the Lokhtachev brothers and I installed (Alexander Ivanovich then fell ill and could not come) at the expense of the St. Tryphon Foundation, of which I was the Chairman of the Board at that time.

The authorship of the monument belongs to the well-known Zlatoust masters, the workshop of LiK, headed by Alexander Ivanovich LOKHTACHEV (Sculptor, Honored Artist of Russia. He was awarded the medal of the Order "For Services to the Fatherland, II degree". The Order of the Russian Orthodox Church "Holy Blessed Prince Daniel of Moscow, II degree." Chelyabinsk region". Founder of LLC Workshops of decorative and applied arts "LiK", having the status of "Patriarchal workshops".

The Roman chiton and the Roman appearance of the saint, his age complexion, which were originally present in the composition, I asked to be corrected for thinner ones with an Orthodox stole, straight hair was made more curly, similar to the appearance of the inhabitants of Asia Minor, namely, closer to the Phoenician, Galilean tradition, and not Jewish and Roman, as many believe due to their own misunderstanding. The facial features on the monument were also corrected.

And here with God's Help a year ago, on the eve of the celebration of St. Tryphon's Day, we installed this monument in front of the chapel of the same name in the Moscow region, thereby erecting the first monument in Russia to the Holy Martyr Tryphon.

From left to right: Andrey Shalygin, Andrey and Denis Lokhtachev. The people from the Urals then arrived dressed out of season and, of course, were very cold (the brothers personally carried out the gluing of the monument to the base and the installation of the plaque without building a special shelter).

At the same time, with the help of God, I managed to accomplish an almost unrealistic task - to find the possibility of delivering the Relics of St. Tryphon to Russia to place them in the immediate vicinity of the monument to the Saint. And since everyone knows how impossible it is to do this in Russia without the Patriarchal Blessing, especially for a non-church fund, especially for a still unconsecrated chapel and monument that stand on lands that have nothing to do with the Church, then it is simply impossible to call a further event other than a Miracle .

However, using my personal connections, I managed to find such an opportunity - to ask for a fair particle of the relics of the Holy Martyr Tryphon, stored in a temple in the attacked territories in the Gaza Strip. At the same time, the Rector of the Church of St. Porfiry, who was given all possible assistance in restoring his temple, is the Custodian of Kostinets of the Jerusalem Church of the Holy Sepulcher, and therefore he has the right to independently make decisions on the separation and division, transfer of the Relics, guaranteeing their authenticity in the first person of the Chief Custodian.

Thus, through the mediation of the St. Boniface Foundation, I managed to receive a gift from the keeper of the ossuary of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem, Archbishop Alexius of Gaza, a particle of the Relics of the Holy Martyr Tryphon. The gift was made in gratitude for the assistance rendered by the Fund in the restoration of the main temple of the city of Gaza - the temple of St. Porfiry, damaged during the shelling of the city. A particle of the relics was transferred through official representatives in Russia - the charitable Foundation of the Holy Martyr Boniface.

It is also noteworthy that the accompanying icon during the process of the solemn transfer of the relics of St. Tryphon to the Dean of the churches of the Vidnovsky District was the icon of St. Tryphon, which, at my request, was painted using computer technology amazing icon painter Sergius, - a completely paralyzed young man, about whom you can write separate stories and for a very long time. So if you need an inexpensive icon and want to support it - order it.

On February 9, 2013, the relics of St. Tryphon were separated by the Keeper of the Ossuary, and on February 12, 2013, they were already with me. Therefore, with the usual Ark for the Relics, which arrived to me in a cypress reliquary, I had to resolve the issue urgently and on my own, so the traditional Orthodox gilded metal one was purchased by me in the Sofrinsky store of church utensils opposite the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, and the procedure for placing the relics there, praying , I had to do it myself.

The relics of St. Tryphon were handed over by me to the Dean of the Churches of the Vidnovsky District, the head of the missionary department of the Moscow diocese, the rector St. George's Church Prominent to father Mikhail Egorov a year ago. Brought to Russia with the blessing of the Archbishop of Istra Arseniy, a particle of the relics of the Holy Martyr Tryphon on February 16 during the rite of consecration of the erected monument to the holy martyr and the chapel named after him, was donated by the Chairman of the Board of the National Fund of St. Tryphon Andrei Shalygin as a gift to the church-chapel of the Holy Martyr Tryphon for the blessing and consecration of the pious believers, along with specially made banners, icons, and a nominal prosphora seal, - the reliquary with relics is received by the Dean of the Churches of the Vidnovsky District, the head of the missionary department of the Moscow diocese, the rector of the St. George Church in Vidnoye, father Mikhail Egorov.

A particle of the relics was transferred to the chapel of St. Tryphon.

To certify the authenticity of the relics of the Holy Martyr, the relevant documents are available - evidence of their authenticity from the Keeper of the Ossuary, as well as the Certificate of transfer from the Greek Patriarchate in Gaza to the St. Boniface Foundation, which delivered the Relics to me.

Saint Tryphon was worthy of martyrdom in Nicaea in the year 250 under the emperor Decius. Having accepted the body of the martyr, the Christians wanted to give him burial in the same city, but Saint Tryphon in a vision commanded that his body be transferred to his homeland. He was buried in the village of Kampsada in Phrygia, not far from the city of Apamea. Later, his holy relics were transferred to Constantinople, and then to Rome. A well-known researcher in the field of hagiography, Archbishop Sergius (Spassky), writes about this in the Complete Menology of the East (vol. III, February 1). Apparently, we are talking about part of the holy remains of the martyr Tryphon, because in other countries there are his sv. relics. There are especially many of them on the holy Mount Athos: in the monastery of Xenophon there is an honest head, in Kostomonite - a hand, in Pantokrator - a dust. Particles of the relics of St. Martyr Tryphon are also kept in other Athos monasteries: Zograph, Vatopedi, Esfigmene. Ark with the foot of St. Martyr Tryphon is located in one of the monasteries in Saint Meteora (Greece).

Particles of St. relics of the martyr Tryphon are also in Moscow. In 1803, the Metropolitan of Montenegro, Peter Negosh, sent three particles of relics from the city of Kotor to the silversmith Trifon Dobryakov, who expressed his good desire to create a worthy cancer for the relics of his heavenly patron. Dobryakov put the particles sent to him in gilded silver reliquaries and in 1812 handed them over to Emperor Alexander the Blessed. The sovereign donated them in 1819 to the church of St. Martyr Tryphon in Naprudny. The holy relics were placed in special expensive shrines into the temple icon of St. Tryphon. After the revolution, the church was closed. The icon was transferred to the Church of the Sign near the Krestovskaya outpost. There are also icons of the martyr Tryphon with particles of St. relics in the Church of the Icon of the Mother of God unexpected joy» in Maryina Grove and in the Church of the Nativity in Izmailovo.

Well, to popularize the Date of commemoration of the Holy Martyr I developed both the Status itself and the Regulations on the Order of the Holy Martyr Tryphon, including the cross of the Order, which, over my signature, were awarded, among other things, to journalists from RIA Novosti. Naturally, the Order of Saint Tryphon has no status of an official award of Russia and the Church and is a public distinction awarded at the discretion of the organizers. At the same time, the order has 3 degrees of the Cross with different designs and the Star of the Order for the highest merit.

Being at one time the Head of the Staff of the State Unitary Enterprise DEZ Zamoskvorechye, I repeatedly visited Pyatnitskaya and, when restoring the Image of the Saint, took into account the Image of the Holy Martyr Tryphon in the Church of Pope Clement on Pyatnitskaya, in Moscow:

And we should be perfectly aware of the fact that the personality of the Asia Minor holy youth and the image of the modern Tryphon the Falconer are two very big differences.

Church tradition says that the Holy Martyr Tryphon was born in one of the regions of Asia Minor. From a young age, the Lord gave him the power to cast out demons and heal various diseases. Saint Tryphon was especially famous for casting out a demon from the daughter of the Roman emperor Gordian (238-244 from the Nativity of Christ). For which he was sentenced to be beheaded with a sword. This event took place in the city of Nicaea in the year 250. Subsequently, the relics of Saint Tryphon were transferred to Constantinople, and then to Rome.

The writing of this symmetrical image of Tryphon-Panteleimon is just characteristic of us and shows that young men in Orthodox traditional icon painting are written almost identical, with the exception of the accompanying paraphernalia. Both holy youths were Healers. And if panteleimon is better known as a healer of body diseases, then Tryphon is glorified primarily as an exorcist of demons and mental illnesses, and also as a Churchman, that is, leading to the True Faith. Moreover, if Panteleimon was still a healer by occupation, Tryphon was primarily a shepherd and rural worker. It was for this reason that Tryphon, for the most part, subsequently gained fame as an exorcist of all kinds of troubles and pests, including agricultural ones, as an assistant to the peasants and an exorcist of all kinds of hardships, including demons and mental illness.

The glorification of Tryphon in Russia is mostly connected with the history of the first church in Rus' with a groin vault, and this is now the Church of St. Tryphon in Naprudnaya Sloboda (and therefore Trifonovskaya Street) - one of the earliest surviving monuments of Moscow architecture. But in fact, this is not the original temple itself, but only its vestibule, which remained after the destruction of the church by the Bolsheviks. At the same time, the original painting on the ceiling of the porch with the same image of a falconer on a horse, which is now transferred to the icons (and this is by no means Tryphon at all, but the falconer, the so-called Ivan Patrikeyev, known to us from the Miracle of the Falcon, which he alone testified ), the fresco itself is in the storage of the Tretyakov Gallery and is in very poor condition, so there is no need to talk about its reconstruction and return to the Temple yet.

In the photo there is a Blessing of the Rector of the Temple, Father Theodore Rozhik (not only of this temple, but also of a number of others) to raise funds for the monument, which is mounted next to the temple in the photo - a monument to St. Tryphon by Konstantin Chernyavsky, where Tryphon is already depicted instead of Patrikeyev himself on a horse and with a falcon - which in general, neither in the Tradition, nor in the Legend, and never in icon painting before Tolstoy's artistic inventions in the Silver Prince had ever been born. That is why, although the Moscow City Hall at one time agreed on the erection of this monument, and F. Rozhik blessed it, the clergy and clergy of the temple, including Rozhik himself, are well aware that there are a lot of inaccuracies in this symbolism, therefore this matter is not going anywhere for many years, and residents, and then representatives of the church, also joined this process - they protest against the erection of an inappropriate monument, and if they erect it, it will not be on the temple grounds, which makes the procedure itself meaningless. The character rides a horse, which is Tolstoyanism, is dressed in falconer's clothes, which is meaningless for a shepherd, is not curly as described, does not have a piercing beard, ... and we worship Saint Tryphon, and not the falconer Patrikeev (who was called Ivan, and was he is not a falconer), to erect a monument to which is very stupid.

The history of the emergence of the first stone church in the Name of the Holy One in Nadprudnaya Sloboda in Moscow is associated with a beautiful legend, which is now called the “Miracle of the Falcon”. In whose honor the first stone temple was erected in Rus', as well as the tradition of painting icons and honoring the patron saint of all living creatures.

Once on a hunt with the Grand Duke of Moscow and All Rus' Ivan Danilovich, nicknamed Kalita, the beloved gyrfalcon flew away, and he ordered the falconer, who, according to tradition in Rus', were the closest associates, at all costs to find his beloved white gyrfalcon in three days, otherwise he threatened death penalty saddened him by Ivan Patrikeev. The falconer traveled the whole forest, but the search did not lead to anything; Exhausted and tired, on the third day he stopped near Maryina Grove and from great exhaustion fell into a sound sleep under a tree. Before that, he fervently prayed: “Pleasure of God,” he said, “whose memory the Holy Church honors today, help me find the grand-ducal gyrfalcon, deliver me from the execution that awaits me, and I vow to create a temple in your name in this place.” And the falconer sees a marvelous dream: a young man appeared before him on a white horse and holds the Grand Duke's gyrfalcon on his hand: “Take your lost bird, go with God to the prince and do not be sad.” The falconer woke up and sees that the missing gyrfalcon is really sitting on his arm, which he took to the Grand Duke, and told him his vision and this vow. The prince granted Ivan Yuryevich Patrikeev land, and on the spot where he had a wonderful dream, Patrikeev built a temple. Since the missing gyrfalcon was found on February 1, according to the old style, on the day of memory of St. Tryphon, the falconer dedicated the created church to this Holy Martyr, placing in it the image of the martyr depicted in the form in which he appeared to the falconer in a dream. Orthodox Christians celebrate the feast day of the holy martyr Tryphon on February 14th.

How there in FEBRUARY a falconer on a hunt, allegedly "Tryphon", wandered through the forest for three days and did not die in Russian frosts, and then slept under a tree, and in the morning, waking up rested in a snowdrift, found a gyrfalcon sitting next to him - let Mr. Tolstoy he will explain his fiction to us with malicious intent, but there is no need for us to talk about nonsense, we have more to do with facts. Unsuccessful docking church calendar with the fables of the artistic word clearly demonstrates the whole inconsistency of the myth. But this is not the most stupid thing in this story.

Thus, the falconer was actually Patrikeyev Ivan Yuryevich - a prince, boyar, governor of Vasily II and Ivan III, a direct descendant of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas by his father. Prince Ivan Yurievich was a cousin of Ivan III and one of his closest assistants, the head of the boyar duma, one of the authors of the Sudebnik of 1497.
In memory of the Miracle, between 1470 and 1480, the Temple of St. Tryphon in Naprudny was founded - the first church in the history of Rus' with a groin vault. The approximate year of construction of the stone temple is considered to be 1492 according to the date of the part of the tombstone laid in the masonry of the temple and taken by the builders at the nearest cemetery, because the church was built in a hurry, initially unskilled, even with a crooked foundation. But why this happened - we will analyze.

Tryphon on a horse, painting of the outer wall of the altar apse of the Tryphon Church in Naprudny, mid-15th - early 16th century, State Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow

The legend about Saint Tryphon (or rather, about his appearance), in its Russian interpretation, is perhaps no more confused than any other locally revered Tradition. Alas, no one canceled eschatology from John the Theologian, and therefore the impoverishment of the Faith and substitution as the main tool of the False King are objective and ubiquitous processes. As the Fathers of the Church used to say more than once, Evil has always lived in Her fence, and we can do nothing about it.

Therefore, for those who, with Faith, do not seek full-fledged Knowledge, the Tradition about St. Tryphon himself is enough, which, as described in the Life, and abbreviated by the Church, states that:"The holy martyr Tryphon was born in one of the regions of Asia Minor. From a young age, the Lord granted him the power to exorcise demons and heal various diseases. Saint Tryphon became especially famous for casting out a demon from the daughter of the Roman emperor Gordian (238-244). Helping all those who were suffering, he demanded only one payment - faith in Jesus Christ, by whose grace he healed them. When the emperor Decius (249-251), a cruel persecutor of Christians, entered the royal throne, it was reported to eparch Aquilinus that Saint Tryphon boldly preaches faith in Christ and leads many to Baptism. The saint was arrested and brought in for interrogation, during which he fearlessly confessed his faith. in the year 250. Subsequently, the relics of Saint Tryphon were transferred to Constantinople, and then to Rome."

The ingenuous sane Tradition over time, through the efforts of numerous guardians of the Faith, has acquired artistic conjectures that turn into fictions without malicious intent.

    GOOD INTENTIONS...

As you know, the road to Hell creeps, and even more so - when all sorts of "well-wishers" and self-nominated non-ordained clergy participate in this. And if the priesthood was so sophisticated, what can we say about folk beliefs. Therefore, in any village we will tell you that "On Nikola" - "he himself urinated into the water (sorry, to put it mildly)" - therefore it becomes cold and you no longer need to swim. Hence, we are not at all surprised that Saint Tryphon, for example, in the Balkan versions of the Faith (as a shepherd of geese and a simple peasant boy), turns into the patron of agriculture and all domestic cattle, and, accordingly, the protector of crops and livestock from all sorts of diseases, midges, insects, and other reptiles. Therefore, suddenly, he becomes at the same time "the lord of flies and all reptiles" (Although, as is well known from the Tradition, this very Lord of the flies is none other than Satan). Here's your grandmother and Yuryev Day.

And since Satan has already been equalized in rights with Tryphon, then in the future it looks like a completely harmless prank to pin Tryphon to the grape harvest season as the main Balkan agricultural crop, and at the same time the birth of some completely stupid story called "Tryphon is slaughtered", according to which a certain either a criminal, or not in his right mind, a village boy, according to some sources, either he stabbed his mother, or he stabbed himself, or cut off his nose. And what exactly these people are celebrating here - they themselves do not understand, trying to urgently invent some kind of good plot (which from time immemorial has not been at all). However, everyone is well aware that this is just a way to celebrate at least somehow "in a Christian" pagan holiday of the grape harvest, when the peasants cut the grapes and on this occasion they must certainly get drunk. It's like our Maslenitsa, and even a bunch of all sorts of idiotic "Spas" - either honey, then apple, then some kind of Christmas trees, then brooms for the Trinity ... Obscurantism.

And it’s absolutely “decent” in this context that the Poles, who were not particularly engaged in viticulture according to their northern tradition, decided to make the “agricultural patron of every living creature” the patron of the Hunt, who “sent prey” to hunters, and at the same time forgave them murder. Convenient, up to date. And since the Poles were at the junction of the wars of the West and the East (including according to their Faith), their Catholicism and geopolitics prevailed over Byzantium, and a certain compromise was born in which common features two saints became completely mirrored, but their names are different. This is how Saint Hubert, or Hubert, the patron saint of hunters, was born. Which is completely mirrored to the "Russian" Saint Tryphon, even in a symbolic image.

It is difficult to say what the images of Tryphon on horseback and with the Falcon have to do with that poor boy who suffered for the Faith in Asia Minor. That is why the sane priesthood now tends to generally distance itself from the image of Tryphon on a horse (on which he never sat), and with a falcon (which he never held). As a last resort, the falcon is written out in the hand "like a Bizhiy dove", so that it can always be attributed to the Holy Spirit. And why on earth he suddenly began to patronize the hunters - no one knows. Except for those who benefit from it. However, we will not answer for everyone, but we will deal with our own. I have already spoken enough in other articles about the iconography of the image, and therefore I will not repeat myself.

Okhota historian Alexander Kaledin, as well as, now deceased, former permanent Chief Editor the oldest hunting magazine in Russia, the almanac "Hunting Spaces", Mr. Korolev God rest his Soul, knowing full well real story The Russian icon of Saint Tryphon quite rightly believed that the only relation that Saint Tryphon had to the Hunt was that, tormented by the persecutors, he was dragged out to hunt after a horse, where he was poisoned by hunting dogs and the hunters themselves practiced shooting on it. And in accordance with Orthodox tradition, from whose persecutors he accepted death, he patronizes those, as he prays for his tormentors.

That is why the Church tries to distance itself from all sorts of "equestrian icons", "falconer images", "hunting motifs", and other nonsense. That is why real icon painting is a Byzantine image of a young boy standing with a cross in his hand. Like a Roman, young, about 23 years old, a shepherd of geese by the lake, with a piercing beard, in a shirt a little below the knees, on top of an epancha with a cockle, as the shepherds wore; coarse clothes, barefoot, thin face, curly hair. In his hand is a charter ... In his right hand, one can write a falcon according to the miracle he performed in Moscow ... But better than a dove. And not on the right. And not instead of the Cross. And he will remind you of the falcon, and there will be no mistake, and he will not replace the Cross.

"Shepherd of the geese by the lake" with the cross and the Holy Spirit - what else do you needsomething, unbelievers? Vegetables, vegetables... whoever can - he eats meat, who cannot digest - eats vegetables (free translation of the Apostles).

POLISH PANISTRY - AHEAD AND ON A DASHING HORSE...

But, not Chapaev, but almost. It all depends on who is lying. The authors of the film about Chapaev, who in fact was the most prominent supporter of mechanized units and in the overwhelming majority of cases did not use a horse, but ... an armored car (the myth about a peasant on a dashing horse was invented to please the "Budyonny cavalry" - which the Germans successfully crumbled into cabbage during the early days of the war). Approximately the same thing happened with the image of Saint Tryphon in Rus'. Our deep misfortune in Orthodoxy is that the vast majority of the current priesthood graduated from "machine-gun courses", and in matters of Faith - gray. And when it comes to "gospel", then what is out of the corner of your ear heard, and lied stronger - that will do. Therefore, the artistic nonsense of Alexei Tolstoy from the fashionable "Prince of the Silver", which appealed to the de-churched intelligentsia, were perky inserted into the canon.

Well, as a result, modern icons (without Christ in the red corner, that is, the bird was not sent from God) absorb the clearly visible features of the previous ones, and the errors are summarized. The horse, suddenly, begins to walk with two right legs at the same time (by mistake of another old icon, written by no one knows by whom), according to the principles of Hermeticism, the apostles already turn into 12 goldfish, the swan "trinity" shifts to a corner, and not in the center of events , the rider towers over the apostles, shod, obviously not in a shepherd's outfit, and there is no Charter, as well as in general even the Cross in his hand, rides and admires the falcon. As they say, - Without Christ, but without the Cross. And if the previous one was even with a worldly "king in the head" in the corner of the icon, then this one without it at all. Bunnies, squirrels, foxes, and other fauna appear in the background, and it is proposed to pray for. Yes, and Tryphon is a saint or Patrikeev on a horse - it’s completely incomprehensible. This is probably the first attempt in history to make Tryphon a "hunting saint" (the previous ones are unknown to me in world icon painting).

That's why it happened to us that the official Church tells us tales about the royal falconer, sent by the king for a falcon, and the king himself was born many years after he was built into the temple in honor of the event in his eldership. And what to do - you so want to canonize the tsar, whitewash the defecting courtier, and the story of the only inquisitor in Rus' (the hierarch and confessor of the Tsar), who officially executed for his faith - once again make amends, well, at least with some kind of consecration of the activities of absolutely bad people. The myth of Patrikeev in its secular interpretation is very beneficial for his false connection with Ivan the Terrible (who was several years old at the time of the foundation of the Church of the Miracle and could not send anyone anywhere), as well as whitewashing Joseph Volotsky as the author of the Orthodox Inquisition.

Of course, John IV, aka Ivan the Terrible, had absolutely nothing to do with the story of the falcon, but somehow the Church did not want to involve the patron saint of heretics Ivan III in the story with the saint. Therefore, all dates and names with surnames in the history of a certain Trifon Patrikeev do not fit at all, as well as the dating of the construction of the Temple on this occasion. But you don’t need to join them - then the linden will not smell like oak.

But the story "with the falcon of St. Tryphon" has the most direct relation to heretics and secret supporters of Lithuanian and Polish panism. And that's why it even exists to this day. Because it was invented just at the time when Ivan III realized that he was in a hurry to bring heretics closer to him, and his inner circle had long been conducting unauthorized negotiations with Lithuania and Poland behind his back. The whole story was invented by them when the conspiracy was revealed.

    WAS A BOY...

The vast majority of historians understand that the canonical story of the falcon of St. Tryphon and Ivan Patrikeev does not fit with any story at all, but many of them do not quite understand why Tryphon in the Moscow rank was given such great importance. Also, they do not quite understand why there are numerous awards named after St. Tryphon, and the image of the falconer based on the Legend was revered along with George the Victorious as a symbol of the patron of Moscow, and at one time was even printed on coins, and so on.

Hegumen Kiprian Yashchenko and Archpriest Theodore Rozhik at the service in honor of St. Tryphon's Day

The studies of Professor S. Zagraevsky have long put an end to the delusional host of fictions around the royal falconer's, unequivocally showing that the first Temple of St. earth, princely architects, long before the birth of Ivan Vasilyevich, in an exceptional architectural tradition, without any agreement with the Church.

If you do not insert harsh conclusions into the narrative, and try to refine it (as much as possible), then the truth will look something like this: Ivan III, and it happened, with the prince Ivan Yuryevich Patrikeev on the Day of St. Tryphon on February 1, according to the old style. In memory of which, in the period between 1470 and 1480, the Temple of St. Tryphon in Naprudny was erected - the first temple in the history of Rus' with a groin vault. In memory of this event, the princes of the Patrikeevs received permission to depict a falcon on the official seal, and Ivan III, realizing that the Miracle was revealed precisely to Patrikeev, abolishes the image of the falconer on the coin, but in memory of the event he builds on his land the Church of the Holy Martyr Tryphon.

And now the Moscow authorities want to erect something like this statue on the square near the Temple, officially allocating as much as 14 million rubles for this work. But here's the bad luck - the clergy of the Temple in Naprudnaya are not too pleased with such an initiative of the authorities, who did not even bother to involve the clergy and clergy of the Temple in making such a decision. And if something is to be staged, then jointly, and therefore, according to a coordinated idea (hence the natural desire - if disgrace cannot be prevented, then it must be led). The clergy, for example, believe that it would be better if the government took the trouble to direct these funds to the restoration of a fresco depicting a horseman with a falcon, stored in the storerooms of the Tretyakov Gallery, or better, to an accurate reproduction of the fresco in the current church. And if they intend to erect a statue of "Tryphon" without coordination with historiography and the Church, then somehow AWAY FROM THE TEMPLE, AND DEFINITELY NOT ON ITS TERRITORY. Partly because Tryphon himself never even sat on a horse in the Tradition, did not hold a falcon in his hand, did not walk in falconer's vestments.

    WHAT REALLY HAPPENED

Of course, no ordinary falconer built any votive church, and no Trifon Patrikeyev ever existed. Moreover, the temple was built in a hurry, in an unconventional manner, without the blessing of the Church, using princely people and princely land, IN WHICH, EVEN CONTRARY TO THE IMAGINED HISTORY, IT WAS NOT GLORIOUS TO THE SAINT, BUT TO THE IMAGE OF THE FALCONER ON A HORSE(the saint himself in this form in fictional history didn’t appear at all at all), - contradicted everything in general, starting from the prince’s will, ending with church foundations ... That’s why he fell into oblivion immediately shortly after the erection. AND THAT'S WHY:

Patrikeev Ivan Yurievich (1419 - 1499) - prince, boyar, voivode of Vasily II the Dark and Ivan III, by his father a direct descendant of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas. His grandfather Patrikey Narimuntovich is the grandson of Gediminas, who gave the name to this branch of the family. His father, Prince Yuri Patrikeevich, married Anna, granddaughter of Dmitry Donskoy and sister of Vasily II. Prince Ivan Yurievich was thus a cousin of Ivan III and one of his closest assistants, the head of the boyar duma. Married to Evdokia Vladimirovna Khovrina, descended from the same line of Gedemin by kinship. He had a huge influence on Ivan III, to the extent that he remained the Governor of Moscow during the absence of the Grand Duke. One of the authors of the Sudebnik of 1497.

Patrikeyev played an active role in negotiations with the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. In 1492 and 1493 during negotiations over the marriage of Ivan III's daughter Elena and Grand Duke Alexander of Lithuania, Ivan Patrikeev established friendly relations with ambassadors Jan Zaberezinsky and Stanislav Glebovich, which was facilitated by the Lithuanian origin of Ivan Yurievich.

In November 1493, Moscow began negotiations on a peace treaty with Lithuania. The embassy consisted of: Peter Ivanovich, voivode Trokai, Stanislav Kezgail, headman of Samogitia, and Voitekh Yanovich. In this regard, Prince Patrikeev was sent a personal message from the Lithuanian council of nobles, with a request to facilitate the establishment of friendly relations, signed by the Roman Catholic Bishop of Lutsk and Brest Jan, Peter Yanovich (a member of the embassy), Prince Alexander Yuryevich Golshansky (governor of Grodno) and Stanislav Kezgail ( embassy member).

Attempts by the Lithuanian Council of Nobles to establish close relations between it and the Moscow Boyar Duma were frustrated due to the disgrace of Prince Patrikeev in 1499, because Patrikeev was (not without reason) accused of conspiring with the Lithuanian and Polish panship in their interests, as well as colluding with the Roman Catholic episcopate (also not without evidence), as a result of which he fell out of favor with Ivan III, who by that time had realized (not without the participation of the hierarchs of the Russian Orthodox Church) that the tsar’s inner circle was leaning towards the Lithuanians, and there were more and more heretics in his entourage.

However, the Polish-Lithuanian negotiations of Patrikeyev were not his main mistake, but served as another weight on the scales of deciding his fate by the king. A feature of court politics in last years reign of Ivan III (after the death of his eldest son Ivan the Young in 1490) there was a confrontation between two groups supporting two possible heirs: the grandson of Dmitry, the son of Ivan the Young and Elena, the daughter of the Moldavian ruler Stephen III the Great and the second son of Basil, who was the eldest son second wife of Ivan III Sophia Paleolog. The princes Patrikeyevs, son-in-law of Ivan Yurievich Prince Semyon Ryapolovsky, diplomat and writer Fyodor Kuritsyn formed the basis of the grandson's party, which at first prevailed over Tsarevich Vasily.

This is what the Church of St. Tryphon in Naprudny looked like before destruction

However, the situation changed dramatically on January 31, 1499, the princes Patrikeyevs (Ivan Yuryevich himself and sons Vasily and Ivan) and prince Semyon Ryapolovsky were arrested, and already on February 5 Semyon Ryapolovsky was executed by order of Ivan III, that is, without trial. The reasons for this turn in politics have been repeatedly discussed by historians, various hypotheses have been expressed, the annals do not name its reasons, in addition, they were edited on this issue by various interested parties. Personally, Ivan III, in his instruction to the Russian ambassadors, demanded that they not deviate from his instructions and not be self-willed, like the princes Ryapolovsky and the Patrikeevs. Therefore, the main hypothesis suggests that this is a punishment for behavior in negotiations with Lithuania. After some time, the grandson-heir also fell into disgrace.

Therefore, based on historical facts and all the circumstances of History, logically comparing the biography of Ivan Patrikeev, Ivan III, the history of the Temple, symbolism, paraphernalia, as well as the whole situation in Rus', the following should be rightly noted:

If Patrikeev (as the closest nobleman of the king, suddenly, falling into disgrace, and walking under a mass of accusations, is hunting (and the favorite falcons of the king were always worn not by some falconers, but by the nearest nobles, whom they were trusted as a distinction), - by chance missed the falcon, it is no wonder that Ivan, already so annoyed with the behavior of Patrikeyev, told him - "either you find a falcon, or I will cut off your head ..."):

    1. Patrikeev benefited from the Miracle of the Falcon precisely at that very moment, precisely in that very situation. The patronage of the Saint is the only thing that could save him from the disfavor of the Tsar. Saints simply do not patronize, especially those accused of heresy and connection with Roman Catholicism. What should Patrikeev do - just to bring a falcon means just to temporarily save his head. But to bring him by Miracle, under the auspices of the Saint, and hence God, - here it is revenge. And, after all, no one except Patrikeyev can testify to that Miracle. He himself told. According to him, we count. But Patrikeyev was not a Righteous at all. Having come up with this whole story, Patrikeyev could count, if successful, on the refutation of accusations of treason and heresy.

    2. The entourage of Ivan III, and even the Grand Duke himself, very much doubted that story with the falcon, but they were afraid of God, and therefore they did not argue at first. However, indirect signs of a real relationship are well known. How so, - the Grand Duke himself after that removes the falconer on horseback from his coin, removes him from the heraldry of Moscow, introduces the Byzantine double-headed eagle, and the falconer suddenly appears on the seal of Patrikeyev. The forecourt was laid urgently, the foundation is planned at random, not even along the string, but concretely crooked. Gathering everything around into it, stuffing it with gravestones, and everything in a row, the builders are clearly in a hurry, they are driving, as if if they don’t quickly rebuild at least something resembling a foundation, there will be no church at all. Patrikeyev hurries the builders, driving away unskilled labor, until the Grand Duke either changes his mind, or does not know about it at all, until the princely master architects of white stone vaults have entered the business. After all, if you rebuild the beginning of the Temple, Ivan III will be so afraid to demolish what was laid in the Name of God, you will have to complete it. Patrikeyev seeks to perpetuate not Tryphon as such, but HIMSELF ON A HORSE WITH A FALCON, painting himself on a fresco. “Me, I am patronized by a saint, which means that I am not a traitor and not a heretic!” shouts everything that has been done.

    3. The heresy of the Judaizers simply demanded that the Russian Church introduce its own local alternatives about Miracles Therefore, the metropolitans encouraged in every possible way at least some "Russian miracles" in order to outshine the Jewish and European miracles. In order to confirm the patronage of the Saints over Russia. Therefore, these times were "Wonderful, wonderful." And therefore, Patrikeyev correctly calculated that if Ivan’s piety did not work, then the logic of the Church would prevail, all the more he had intercessors who could protect him from accusations of heresy and connection with the Roman Catholics. Metropolitan Simon stood up for the Patrikeev princes, and instead of execution they were tonsured monks. Ivan Yurievich was tonsured at the Trinity-Sergius Monastery. This was the only way to save his head from both secular reprisals and accusations of Roman Catholic treason. Ivan Yuryevich died in the monastery and his life does not contain exactly any mention in the anals about some Miracle that happened to him. He was not marked by the peculiarity of his stay in the monastery. Which suggests that the Church initially chose to forget this story altogether.

3 degrees of the Order of the Holy Martyr Tryphon of the Russian Orthodox Church

Everyone understood perfectly well that most likely Patrikeyev, having come up with this whole story, thereby simply saving his own head, therefore, the Temple did not acquire any proper place, and the veneration of this event was somehow especially quickly worn out. Initially, the seemingly accepted symbolism was promptly abolished as soon as possible, and even the one that could somehow be interpreted and interpreted to this version. The seal was changed, the coin was changed, the image of the falconer disappeared from everywhere, the settlement and the parish in Naprudnaya were sharply depopulated.

The legendary part of the Tradition is most likely because it was fairly spelled out in the Church Tradition because Vasily Patrikeyev, under the monastic name Vassian, became after that an outstanding church figure, and could influence the interpretation of this story that happened "in front of his eyes" - in the right interpretation.

And since the story with Ivan Patrikeev itself could not be closed by anything, the Legend was artificially attributed to later times, and in it Prince Ivan Patrikeev suddenly became the unknown royal falconer Trishka Patrikeev, the patron of heretics Ivan III was replaced by on Ivan the Terrible, unshadowed by God's testimony. And the fact that the Church and all those who live there - remember who built what and why - so resettle everyone, and everyone will forget. Which is what was done. Everyone benefits. And the saint is already patronizing another ruler, and everyone has forgotten the disgraced prince of the conspirator and heretic, and the number of miracles in Orthodoxy has increased, and there are no witnesses. And the Chronicles were destroyed and obviously frayed ...

Well, not everything turned out very nicely ... The Church itself perfectly understood this. And that's why, when Alexei Tolstoy wrote "Prince of the Silver" - everyone unanimously grabbed the fiction, and immediately slapped it into the canon and into children's books. Time will pass, everyone will forget everything, and there will be a beautiful story ... But, alas, not everyone follows the path of "childish Faith". There are those who need the Truth. That is why God has not one Commandment of Beatitude, but to each his own. By strength and understanding.

Draw the icon Tryphon-Panteleimon O. Tishenko

Saint Tryphon's Day - February 14 - What do we celebrate?

On Saint Tryphon's Day, we commemorate the Martyr Tryphon, the Holy Shepherd of Asia Minor, a healer and exorcist who converts people to the Christian Faith, most likely hunted down by dogs on the hunt by the very lake, where he was caught by the persecutors for healing in the Name of Christ and converting in the True Faith.

And not at all the prince - the falconer Ivan Yuryevich Patrikeev, the lobbyist of the Poles, sitting on a horse with a falcon according to the Miracle, unconfirmed anywhere and by no church description, revered by some foolishly on the basis of a self-built Patrikeian church, and the artistic fiction of Mr. Tolstoy, based on myth-making, in which on the icon is not a saint, but the author, due to a discrepancy between the church calendar and the writer’s delirium, who allegedly slept for three days in February under a tree, urgently set up a church without blessing to justify a miracle, but was exiled for treason against Russia to the monks, where he died in obscurity , and by order of the sovereign, the image of the falconer was removed from coins, seals and emblems.

Could it have been a miracle? Maybe it was. But in this regard, we honor Tryphon, the shepherd, and not the disgraced falconer prince on horseback and with a falcon.

The Orthodox Church honors the memory of the Holy Martyr Tryphon on February 1/14. Church Hymns of the Day:

The Martyr Tryphon received grace from God to help people and to be an intercessor before Him in deliverance from sorrows and misfortunes, in various everyday needs: detecting losses, protecting crops from harmful insects. But the saint was especially famous for his help in driving away unclean and crafty spirits.

    Troparion, tone 4

Your martyr, O Lord, Tryphon, in his suffering has received an incorruptible crown from You, our God: have Thy strength, put down the tormentors, crush the demons of weak insolence. Save our souls with prayers.

    Stichera, tone 1

Tryfon all-glorious, the sweetness of the imperishable communicant in Heaven was the brightest, you suffered valiant deeds, glorious, and, having been a witness of the truth, pray to Christ to grant our souls peace and great mercy.

    PRAYER

Holy Saint of God Martyr Tryphon

O holy martyr of Christ Tryphon, quick helper to all those who run to you and pray before your holy image, quick to obey the representative! Hear now and every hour the prayer of us, who honor your holy memory in this all-honourable temple, and intercede for us before the Lord in every place. For you, the saint of Christ, the holy martyr and wonderworker Tryphon, resplendent in great miracles, before your departure from this perishable life, prayed for us to the Lord and asked him for this gift: if anyone is in any need, trouble, sorrow and your holy name will begin to call upon mental or bodily illnesses, that one will be delivered from every evil pretext. And as if you were once the daughter of the tsar, in the city of Rome from the devil tormented, healed thou, save us from his fierce wiles all the days of our life, especially on the day of our last breath, intercede for us: then be our helper and speedy chaser of the evil ones spirits, and to the Kingdom of Heaven the leader, where you now stand with the faces of the saints at the throne of God. Pray to the Lord, that we, the partakers of eternal joy and joy, may also be vouchsafed to us with you to glorify the Father and the Son and the Holy Comforter of the Spirit forever and ever.

Saint Patron Saints of Hunters and Fishermen - Cathedral of Saint Patron Saints of Hunters and Fishermen

However, Saint Tryphon is not the only patron of hunters and fishermen. There is a whole Cathedral of the Holy Patrons. This is the name of even a separate icon. This icon is notable primarily for the fact that it was written already in the 21st century, in 2005 with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus' Alexy II.

In the upper part of the holy image are five icon-painting images of the Most Holy Theotokos. These are the Tikhvin, Kazan, Ozeryanskaya, "Sign" and Fedorovskaya icons, especially revered by hunters and fishermen. Each of the images is associated with genuine evidence of the grace-filled help of the Queen of Heaven.

A little lower, in a prayerful intercession to the Savior and Mother of God, twenty saints of God are depicted, since ancient times considered the patrons of hunters and fishermen: St. Nicholas, Archbishop of Myra, the Apostles John the Theologian, Peter and James of Zebedee, Nicholas of Kozheezersky, Andrew the First-Called, Thomas, the righteous Procopius of Ustyug and Saints Paphnutius of Borovsky and Varlaam of Keret, Great Martyr Eustathius Plakida, Martyr Tryphon, Righteous Simeon of Verkhoturye, Holy Passion-bearer Tsar Nicholas, Right-Believing Grand Duke Alexander Nevsky, Great Martyrs Dmitry of Thessalonica and George the Victorious, and Equal-to-the-Apostles Grand Duke Vladimir, Martyr Mercury and Right-Believing Prince Dmitry Donskoy.

A number of prayers have been compiled both in general to all the patrons of hunters and fishermen, and separately to the holy apostles, reverends, great martyrs and martyrs, as well as to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. Our ancestors turned to them in prayer before the start of hunting and fishing, as well as in special situations when people needed help. heavenly patrons. There is evidence when the saints came to the aid of those praying and saved them from drowning and severe frosts, from storms and storms, led the lost out of the forest, and also rewarded them with abundant booty.

Is Saint Tryphon the Patron of Hunters and Fishermen? Of course, like all the patron saints of Christianity. But he patronizes them not at all while sitting on a horse with a falcon, but according to the principle - from what he died, that brings Grace.

Is Saint Tryphon the patron saint of agriculture and animals? Of course, because during his lifetime he himself was a shepherd. In the same way, an exorcist and instructor in Faith and patience, a steward for a bird (like a shepherd of geese).

At the top of the icon is a row miraculous icons Mother of God, through which at different times the Queen of Heaven provided Her patronage to hunters and fishermen and to this day is their Helper and Representative. There are five such icons: if you look from left to right, then the first is the Tikhvin, then Kazan, Ozeryanskaya, “The Sign” and the Feodorovskaya Icon of the Mother of God.
Under this row of icons of the Most Holy Theotokos, on the left and right below, in prayerful intercession to the Savior, saints are depicted who have a special grace to help everyone involved in hunting and fishing. These are, first of all, St. Nicholas, Archbishop of Myra, the Apostles John the Theologian, Peter and James Zebedee (all of them are depicted on the left side of the icon in the first row). In the second row we see the Monk Nikodim of Kozheezersky, the apostles Andrew the First-Called and Thomas. This group of saints is closed by the righteous Procopius of Ustyug and the Monks Pafnuty of Borovsky and Varlaam of Keret.
On the right side of the icon in the first row are: the great martyr Eustathius Placis, the martyr Tryphon, the righteous Simeon of Verkhoturye and the holy martyr Tsar Nicholas. The second row of saints opens the faithful Grand Duke Alexander Nevsky, followed by the great martyrs Demetrius of Thessalonica and George the Victorious. Above are depicted Equal-to-the-Apostles Grand Duke Vladimir, Martyr Mercury and Right-Believing Prince Dimitry Donskoy.
All of them are patrons of hunters and fishermen. Our ancestors turned to them in prayer before the start of hunting and fishing and in those special and sometimes dangerous situations in which those engaged in these activities sometimes find themselves. And the saints came to their aid: they saved them from drowning in the water and death in severe frosts, during storms and storms they showed the way to the lost and bestowed abundant booty.

There is such a holy righteous. Simeon Verkhotursky, he was fed by fishing, imitating St. apostles of Christ, some of whom were also fishermen.

    St Tryphon
There is a legend that during the reign of Tsar Ivan the Terrible, during the royal hunt, the gyrfalcon, beloved by the king, flew away. The king ordered the falconer Trifon Patrikeev to find the bird that had flown away. Falconer Tryphon toured the surrounding forests, but to no avail. On the third day, tired of a long search, he stopped near Moscow, in a place now called Maryina Grove, and, exhausted, lay down to rest, earnestly praying before this to his patron saint, the martyr Tryphon, asking him for help. In a dream, he saw a young man on a white horse holding the royal gyrfalcon, and this young man said: “Take the lost bird, go with God to the king and do not be sad about anything.” Waking up, the falconer really saw a gyrfalcon on a pine nearby. He immediately took him to the king and told him about the miraculous help he had received from the holy martyr Tryphon. Some time later, on the spot where the saint had appeared, the falconer Tryphon Patrikeyev built a chapel, and then a church in the name of the holy martyr Tryphon.

Saints Eustache (Eustachius, Eustache) and Hubert of Liege

Saint Eustache, he is also Placidus, was the general of the army of the pagan emperor Trajan, during the hunt he saw a deer with a cross between the horns, or he saw between the antlers of the deer the image of the Savior, Who said: “Placidus, why are you persecuting me, who wants your salvation?”, and converted (Eustachius is his baptismal name). Accused of belonging to Christianity, he was deprived of everything, including his wife and both sons (also Christians), but after some time he was again called to active service, since Trajan needed to repel the invasion of the barbarians. Reflected; the wife and children were returned with the expectation that the whole family would sacrifice to the idols, and they take it and refuse it. Trajan ordered them to be thrown to the lions, but they did not eat them, and as a result, the whole family was tortured by being burned alive in a bronze bull. St. Eustache is one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers. Memory of S. Eustachii et Sociorum Mm. - September 20, in the East - November 2.

Saint Hubert(Hubert) Liege, son of the Duke of Aquitaine and grandson of the King of Toulouse, was in the 7th-8th centuries. courtier in Neustria (in the north-west of France), he was very fond of hunting and also saw between the horns of a deer the image of the Savior, Who said: “Hubert, if you do not turn to the Lord and do not live holy, you will soon be cast into hell.” Hubert turned to the Lord and healed holy, namely, he gave up everything and became a priest, and then a bishop (the first bishop of Liege, in Belgium). Jagermeister

The word Jagermeister in German language means "expert hunter" (combining Jager, hunter, and meister, master). The Jagermeister logo, the head of a stag with a glowing cross between the antlers, is a reference to the story of Saint Hubert, Saint Huber. On the edge of the label of a Jagermeister bottle, the following poem by Otto von Riesenthal is printed:

This is the hunter's badge of honor,
that he protect and nourish his game,
    hunt sportingly, as is proper,
and honor the Creator in creation.
