The Miraculous Power of Mother's Prayer
Compiled by Pavel Evgenievich Mikhalitsyn

To show the power of prayer, I will say the following. Prayer not only conquers the laws of nature, is not only an invincible shield against visible and invisible enemies, but even holds back the hand of the Almighty God Himself, raised to defeat sinners. It is difficult to believe these words, but truly they are in the history of Divine Scripture.

St. John Chrysostom (347–407)

Introduction

Maternal prayer saves from fire, flood, disease and all kinds of disasters, it is able to get from the bottom of the sea and from the depths of the earth. These words, which have already become aphoristic in many respects, are not a simple proverb or folk tale, there is a reality behind them that works and has been tested by experience. different people regardless of their faith, position, age. A deep, natural-genetic and spiritual unity binds a mother and her child to such an extent that this phenomenon is difficult to express and describe in any categories of human language. It is no coincidence that a mother's love for her children is compared to God's love for man. Just as a mother's heart is able to forgive the most daring offenses and endure the various tricks of her children, so the Lord forgives all the sins of a person, subject to his sincere repentance and attempts to change the sinful way of his existence.

Mother's prayers sound on different languages, have different forms and religions, but all of them are united by sincere and fiery love for those for whom they are offered. And this love often achieves its goal, people get what they ask for: they get rid of troubles and illnesses, they save themselves from disasters, they get out of deadlocks. However, only in Orthodoxy are these prayers and sighs able to help not only in earthly, temporal life, but, most valuablely, in eternal life. And in the conditions of this world, they not only save from trouble, but also direct a person to repentance and eternal salvation. You will find examples of such prayers in this book. Here are everyday appeals, and requests in difficult circumstances, and prayers for the dead.

We hope that this collection will be useful to the widest range of readers as an invaluable opportunity for direct contact with the very sacrament of faith through the offering of prayers for our loved ones to the Lord, the Mother of God and the saints.

Prayer sigh mothers about their children

God! Creator of all creatures, applying mercy to mercy, You created me worthy to be the mother of a family; Your goodness has given me children, and I dare to say: they are Your children! Because You gave them life, revived them with an immortal soul, revived them with Baptism for life in accordance with Your will, adopted them and accepted them into the bosom of Your Church. God! May they love you with all their soul and mind; May they cling to Thee with all their hearts and tremble at Thy words all their lives! Grant me reason to convince them that true life consists in keeping Your commandments, that labor, strengthened by piety, brings serene contentment in this life, and inexpressible bliss in eternity. Reveal to them the understanding of Your law, so that until the end of their days they act in the feeling of Your omnipresence; instill in their hearts fear and aversion from all lawlessness, may they be blameless in their ways, may they always remember that You, the All-good God, are the Zealot of Your law and righteousness! miraculous power maternal prayer

1:502 1:507

“A mother’s prayer will reach from the bottom of the sea” - this proverb has long become a parable in the tongues. It was not said for the sake of a red word. This is a truth that is relevant at all times, confirmed by countless examples of the amazing power and effectiveness of the prayers of millions of mothers. Holy motherly love is able to overcome any obstacles, achieve the impossible and work real miracles.

1:2241

1:4

Relationships between parents and children are modeled on our relationship with God, our Heavenly Parent.

2:705

Therefore, the Lord gave parents special authority over their children:

2:812

Children, be obedient to your parents in everything, for this is pleasing to the Lord.(Col. 3:20).

2:970 2:975

The commandment to honor parents is not only a precept, the non-observance of which is a sin. With its fulfillment, the Lord connected our longevity on earth: Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which the Lord your God is giving you.(Ex. 20:12).

2:1487 2:1492

The holy apostle Paul says that this is the first commandment with a promise(Eph. 6:2). A son or daughter who offends parents, who openly disregards their authority and power, will face a sad fate. The eye that mocks the father and neglects obedience to the mother will be pecked out by the ravens of the valley, and the eagles will devour it!(Prov. 30:17).

2:2077

2:4

With the power that the Lord God gave mothers over children, is connected special power maternal prayer. One of the most instructive examples of great maternal love and prayer for a spiritually perishing son is the prayerful feat of Monica, the mother of Blessed Augustine, who was a prisoner of the disastrous false teaching of the Manichean sect for ten years. The son begged by her not only escaped hell, but also became a saint.

2:729

In his "Confession" blessed Augustine shone the most touching words on his mother:“You stretched out Your hand from on high and “drew my soul” out of this deep darkness, when my mother, Your faithful servant, wept for me before You more than the mothers of dead children mourn. She saw my death in the strength of her faith and the spirit that she had from You - and You heard her, Lord; You heard her and did not despise the tears that watered the earth in streams in every place where she prayed; You heard her"(Confession. Book III. 11.19).

Mother's prayers for children

A mother's prayer is the strongest and most powerful, which can save her children from illness, misfortune and reckless actions. "A mother's prayer will get it from the bottom of the sea" is a truth that is relevant at all times, confirmed by countless examples of the amazing power and effectiveness of the prayers of millions of mothers. Holy motherly love is able to overcome any obstacles, achieve the impossible and work real miracles.

Mother's word has special power. There is nothing brighter and more disinterested than the love of a mother. From the first day of the birth of a child, the mother lives by his breath, his tears and smiles. The child needs a mother. This is the meaning of her life. Love for her baby is as natural to her as gardens bloom in spring. As the sun sends its rays, warming all living things, so the love of a mother warms a child. The mother brings the child to life. In his mouth, she puts her native language, which has absorbed the richness of the mind, thoughts and feelings of the people. She fills him with spiritual strength, helps to comprehend eternal values.

Many good believing mothers have had occasion to worry about their children perishing in the maelstrom of a vicious, dissolute life. Some have spent many years in affliction, humbly waiting and hoping. Their holy tears and prayers were not in vain.

With illnesses of children, you can pray not only to Christ and the Mother of God, but also to numerous Orthodox saints. Among them, Nicholas the Wonderworker, Martyr Tryphon, Great Martyr Panteleimon, Blessed Xenia of Petersburg, Saint Matrona of Moscow and many others are famous for their special help.

3:3322 3:4

If Prayer Doesn't Help

3:59

Sometimes the help expected from God never comes, as if He does not hear prayers. But in any case, you should not despair. From the point of view of the Christian meaning of life, it is better for some people to die in time and be saved for Eternal Life than to survive, but then ruin their soul. Nothing happens by chance with God, and He takes a person to Himself at the moment of his best spiritual state and the greatest readiness for salvation in Eternity. Or when the spiritual fall becomes irreversible.

And it also happens that God, it would seem, for years ignores the prayers of a mother asking to help her child in trouble, but in the end the story has a good ending. And the cause of "deafness" is God's desire to correct a person, for whom premature concessions can only do a disservice.

5 What Every Parent of an Adult Child Needs to Know Every parent of an adult child needs to know seven things, and often no one will tell you about any of them. I think it would be great if someone mentioned at least some of them even before my children grew up and entered into adulthood. Then I could get ready. When you are about to become young parents, older and more experienced parents zealously congratulate you on your expected child. And then, when your baby is born, they congratulate you again, and this time they give you advice on how to raise your baby in the first years of his life. But in relation to older, adult children, everyone is silent. They only smile meaningfully and say nothing about what lies ahead for you. I'm sure they're thinking, “Why say anything now? In time, they will find out for themselves." Or even think that they are the only relatives in the world

6 6 The Power of Praying for Your Adult Children For those who have difficulty with their adult children, why scare others? In general, no matter what the reason for this silence is, no one talks about it. At least I haven't heard anything like it myself. I used to think that when children turn eighteen, they leave school and go to college, parenting, in general, ends there. They have their own lives and you have yours. They remember everything you taught them. And now they are moving on to find high-paying jobs, get married, and visit you with your grandchildren several times a year. Voila! Parenthood is over! Now you can do what you always dreamed of, but were too busy for this because you were raising children. And don't dream! Nothing like this will happen! Your child will turn eighteen, hopefully graduate from school, and only then will you find that the days of serious parenting are just beginning. Do you pray that he or she will get into a good college or vocational school and that the professors won't teach him or her that there is no God and that communism is a great thing or that morality is relative and that one should only desire what is deviation from the norm. The influences being exerted on your adult child now are much more terrifying than you imagined years ago when he or she was born, and certainly much more ominous than when you yourself graduated from high school and you just can't stop. think of all these frightening prospects. Despite the fact that there are more worries, it is possible -

7 What Every Parent of an Adult Child Needs to Know 7 You have less control over everything about their lives than ever before. After your children finish school (if they do), you hope that they will find a job that will give them security and security. You are always concerned that they meet a worthy bride or groom and that, after they get married, they save their marriage. You care about how considerate or careless they are about their health and whether they can make payments on their home. You are worried about your grandchildren: that one day you will have them, and that they will be healthy and grow up to be good, godly children. I am here to tell you about something that you may already suspect and even, most likely, are already sure of. And I'm not just revealing to you this truth that someone must have told you a long time ago, I'm offering you a way to deal with it. But first, I need to tell you about seven things every parent of an adult child needs to know. 1. You need to know that this will never end What no one will tell you is that caring for children never ends. I used to joke with tired, frazzled, and overburdened new parents who were disturbed by unexpected "24-hour-a-7-day-a-week commitments" and "a never-ending list of things to do in a day that just not enough to do it all,” telling them, “Don’t worry. It will only last eighteen years." I knew it was an inhuman joke, but I wanted them to know the truth. In addition, I liked hearing

8 8 The power of praying for your adult children to see how their tired sighs were followed by reluctant laughter. But now I see that I was joking with myself. And it turned out to be much more inhuman than I thought. And all because the truth is, it never ends! Although there are different stages and times of parental responsibility, your heart and mind will always be with each of your children for the rest of your life. And it's not an easy task, because no matter where they go or what they do, a part of you will go with them. When they are happy, you are happy too. When they suffer, you suffer too. Even after they have grown up and you are no longer physically near them on a daily basis, you still care every day, and it may be added that many nights, about their safety and difficulties, about their fears and weaknesses, about their successes and defeats, their decisions and mistakes. And after your children have become adults, you are with them not only in your heart, often they also remain close to you physically. I remember the day my husband Michael and I drove our son Christopher to college where he settled into a student residence. I cried the whole way home, which was only fifteen minutes, since the university was not far from our house. It wasn't because I feared I would never see him again, but because I knew that his days with us were over, and that was the end of an era. The next day, I felt sad too, but got busy with writing projects that were already due. Also with me were my 85-year-old father, my sister who works in our home office, and my husband who works at home in his studio.

9 What Every Parent of an Adult Child Needs to Know 9 At three o'clock in the afternoon, I heard someone enter the house through the back door and my father was talking to that person. "Who could it be? I was surprised. Everyone who lives and works in the house is here, and we are not waiting for anyone.” I entered the kitchen and, to my surprise, saw my son. Hey Christopher. What are you doing at home? Have you forgotten something? No, I just wanted to say hello, he said cheerfully, and then sat down at the kitchen table and talked to my father for almost two hours. At five o'clock he said goodbye and went to the university to have lunch with friends in the cafeteria and then study. He did this almost every day for quite some time, then several times a week, and finally once or twice a week during his junior and then senior years. But the first day he walked into the kitchen, I began to suspect that it would never end. I always smile when I think that of all the places he could go during those two free hours in the afternoon, he wanted to be with his family, talking to his grandfather, who was lonely in a house full of workaholics with no time to sit with them a couple of hours and talk about the old days. My father lived to be ninety-three years old, and until his death he never got tired of talking about how Christopher came home from college every day just to talk to him. The truth is that you will never stop being a parent who cares deeply about the well-being of your children, no matter what age they are, what age you are, and how close or far apart you are. Never! And besides, it seems that when children become adults, everything that they encounter, or everything that

10 10 The power of praying for their adult children comes across them on the way, has stronger consequences than when they were younger. And especially much stronger consequences than when you were young yourself. When we think about how frightening the world is, how threatening and pervasive evil is, and how helpless we feel in the face of it all, we can drive ourselves crazy with worry. Of course, young children can also face very great difficulties, even in situations and conditions that are life-threatening or life-changing. But the very fact that they are still with us in our home and under our care and protection allows us to feel that we are more in control of situations, or at least contribute to most of them. But when our children grow up and make many independent decisions without our participation, we see all the possible serious consequences of wrong decisions. And we also understand that we will pay for the wrong decisions together. When we see that life brings difficult trials to our children, we want to help them. But how to do it in such a way that it does not turn out to be too intrusive or, on the contrary, insufficient? Only God knows the answer to this question. We parents of adult children may have many things to worry about, but there is no guarantee that we will have the opportunity to do something about it or even just voice all our thoughts, advice and opinions. At least not to our adult children. But we have a grand opportunity to express these concerns to God and ask for His help. The most magnificent thing about all this is that when we give our cares to the Lord, believing that He hears our prayers and answers them in the interests of our adult children.

11 What Every Parent of an Adult Child Needs to Know 11 This means that our prayers have the power to make a difference in their lives. And this gives us a peace that we cannot find in any other way. 2. You need to know that you can't fix them. I was just introduced to an attractive young woman in her early forties. For me, forty years is still youth, thirty is early youth, and everyone under thirty is still a child. In this regard, if you go the other way, then forty and fifty are young, sixty and seventy are middle age, and eighty and older are approaching old age. Maybe in ten years I will reconsider all this. This young woman and I had a short talk about the weather, about how hot it was that day and when it would finally rain again. And then she suddenly said, "I want to thank you for the book." She couldn't finish her sentence because her lips were trembling so hard that she had to squeeze them tightly and swallow, trying to fight back tears. But they refused to hold back and rushed down the cheek. During what seemed to be a long gap between when she choked on her tears and when she was able to speak again, I wondered if her tears were caused by her mental agitation or the situation in her marriage. I touched her hand to console her and silently waited for her to finish her sentence. For The Power of a Praying Parent, she said in a trembling voice. When she uttered the word "parent", I immediately understood the source of her suffering. It was the kind of deep pain that only a parent can feel,

12 12 The power of prayer for his adult children when something wrong happens to his child. I immediately remembered the countless stories I had heard from other parents over the years. My brain was flooded with the grief of their disappointment at the disobedience, rebellion, sickness, misfortune, tragedy or injury of their children, and the deep sadness of realizing that they were not living to their fullest potential. As it turned out, she was talking about her adult child. She told me about several serious problems she and her husband had with their twenty-eight year old son. She said that even at a young age, he gave them difficulties, but my book helped her overcome every year and every problem. But as he matured, they had to deal with his recklessness, carelessness, laziness, promiscuity, bad habits, and numerous personal troubles. When will this finally end? she sobbed in tears, a continuous stream flowing down her cheeks. How much longer do we feel pain and suffering, how much longer do we have to pray for our child and pay for his mistakes, especially financially? I wish I could give you an exact cut-off date, I replied, but I don't think there is one. You are not alone in this. I hear stories like this everywhere I go. Parents find it difficult to know where to draw the line between letting an adult child learn a hard lesson and helping him get back on his feet. We know we can't sit back, but sometimes we have to let them hit rock bottom. But still we must have wisdom. We also cannot stand by and let them destroy us. We want them to endure

13 What Every Parent of an Adult Child Needs to Know Lesson 13, but we don't want them to ruin their lives in the process. We need to find a balance between pushing them to be independent before they're ready and making it too easy for them when they need to grow up and learn to fly. I told her, The only way I know how to draw the line between helping your adult child and letting him live a life less than what God has for him is to ask the Lord to give you wisdom. We should all ask God to show us what to do and what not to do for our adult children. We must ask God how to pray for them. We need to ask God for clarity and insight to know when to just pray and let Him work in their lives without any help from us. Only God knows how to do the right thing. And only after you completely hand over your adult child into the hands of God and put the Lord in charge of his life, you can find true peace. You cannot change your son, but God can. Your son needs you to love him, believe in him, and support him in prayer. And then do whatever the Lord tells you to do or don't do to help him get on the right path. I prayed with her and with her husband, who, as it turned out, was waiting for her nearby. After that, she already looked stronger and found peace in her soul. I advised her to understand that God is the perfect parent: He will not only give them wisdom in how to deal with their son and his problems, but He will also work in their son's life to change his situation and lead her

14 14 The power of praying for your adult children in alignment with God's ways. God will also take away the guilt they felt about what happened to their son. We all need to understand that we cannot fix or change our adult children. Only God can create changes in anyone that will last forever. Our job is to put our adult children into the hands of God and then pray that the Lord will work changes in them and in their lives in accordance with His will. 3. You need to know that God can change everything It's not easy being a parent of an adult child. This is because it is difficult to know what to do and what not to do for them. When do you need to intervene? When are you overactive? When are your expectations too high or too low? When is your love too strong or not strong enough? Sometimes you think you're doing the right thing, but it's really not. Or maybe it was right for one child and not for another. I realized that only God can give you the wisdom you need in these matters. He will give it to you when you ask for it. But first, you must understand and believe that when you pray for your adult child, God will hear and answer. That's the way He arranges it. Praying is not about telling God what to do. Praying is to partner with God in order to see that His will is done. You don't need to fully understand what His will is in order to pray for it to be done. You must also believe that even though you cannot change anything in your adult life,

15 What Every Parent of an Adult Child Needs to Know 15 God can change everything. Even though God will not actually change anyone's will, He will enter into the heart of anyone who is even slightly open to Him. We will never know for sure who is completely closed to the things of the Lord and who is not. This is known to God alone. So we need to pray and let God do the work. Without our prayers calling upon us the power of God, our lives are left to chance, sometimes with disastrous results. Let me give you two diametrically opposed examples. I know of a family, let's call them the Joneses, whose son was constantly in trouble with the law. Ultimately, he was arrested. And instead of posting bail for him, Mr. and Mrs. Jones decided to let him learn a hard lesson, and left him for a while in prison. Unfortunately, in prison, one of the inmates attacked and beat him until he died from his wounds. The prison authorities called the parents, informing them of what had happened and where they could collect the body. They were smitten and devastated with guilt that they could have prevented it. They were good parents who tried to do the right thing, but in the end it turned out to be wrong. I do not know what is happening to them today, but I am sure that they are still suffering because of this tragic event. I know another family, let's call them the Browns, whose son also made his parents mourn for a while. When he was arrested and sentenced to prison, they didn't try to get him out either. They knew he was guilty and wanted him to understand the consequences of his behavior. As a result, he worked for a while

16 16 The power of praying for his adult children in prison, which turned his life upside down. His time in prison turned out to be such an unforgettable and terrible experience that he never wanted to repeat it again. All of us who prayed for him asked God to open his eyes to the truth about what path he was on and where he was leading him. We prayed that God would reveal to him what He had made him and what future He had in store for him. God answered prayers because the young man came out a different person. He went to study, changed his life and no longer wasted time on bad pursuits. Both the Joneses and the Browns tried to do the right thing, hoping that their actions would lead to a complete transformation in their adult child. Both pairs of parents made essentially the same decision. But the results came out just the opposite. For one family, this decision turned out to be a disaster, and for another it brought redemption. What is the difference? And the difference, I believe, lies in the presence of the Redeemer. I know for sure that Jesus was invited into the situation with the second family, with the Brown family. They were believers and God reigned in their hearts. They asked the Holy Spirit to come into the situation with their son. Their friends and they themselves fervently prayed that the Lord would touch the heart of that young man. In prayer, they asked God to pour out the Spirit of truth on their son and show him what was really happening in his life from God's point of view. In that prison, God spoke to him, and it became clear to him that although he had done wrong, there was no need for him to continue living as a fool. He had a choice. As far as I know, the parents of the first young man, the Joneses, were not believers and did not pray for their son. Their son was not consecrated to the Lord, he was not taught God's ways,

17 What Every Parent of an Adult Child Should Know 17 and no one prayed for him. He did not have the benefit of the prayers of his parents, family, and friends to protect him and help him hear God. I am not saying that adult children of parents who pray for them will never have any problems. Of course, there will be problems. But if parents pray for their adult child, then even the bad things that happen to him will be crowned with good in his life. At that moment, we may not be able to see it, but God will turn their situation into something good. God uses what we perceive as problems to grab the attention of our adult children and convince them that it is impossible to live without God. Sometimes their hardships are actually due to the grace and love of God working in their lives to save, fix, or protect them from something much worse (see Proverbs 3:11, 12) . If you have never prayed for your adult child before, or if something bad happened to him or her before you knew how to pray, don't worry. God the Redeemer. Atonement is His speciality. Not only does He redeem our lives from death and hell and save us forever, but He also redeems us from hell on earth and saves us here and now. God will release us from a disturbing situation when we ask Him to do so. When praying for your adult child, you need to believe without a doubt some facts about God: 1. You must believe that God loves you and your adult children and He will hear your prayers for them. You need to know that “to those who love God, who are called according to His purpose, everything works together for good” (Rom. 8:28). if you love

18 18 The power of prayer for your adult children of God and want to live in His will, then you are called according to His will. The verses immediately before verse 28 talk about prayer. Could this mean that when we pray, everything works together for good in our lives? 2. You must believe that God can remove any fears you may have about your adult children. What was true for David is also true for you. David said, "I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my dangers" (Ps. 33:5). You can seek the Lord by worrying about your adult children. He will hear you and relieve you of all fears. 3. You must trust that God can give you and your adult children what you need when you ask for it. You need to have faith in God's ability to hear and respond. “But let him ask in faith, not at all doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. Let not such a person think of receiving anything from the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways” (James 1:6-8). We cannot wait for our prayers to be answered without faith in the God we pray to. 4. You must believe that no matter how big your adult child's problem is, God is bigger than the problem. Jesus said, “What is impossible with men is possible with God” and “with God all things are possible” (Luke 18:27; Matt. 19:26). He also said to a father who was seeking deliverance for his son, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes” (Mark 9:23). He is the God of the impossible, which means that with Him everything becomes possible. God can change everything and everyone, even you and your adult child, but first He must be invited to intervene.

19 What every parent of an adult child needs to know 19 in your situation. And that only happens when you pray. 5. You must trust that as the love and power of God is poured into you, your prayers for adult children will always have power. Since your prayers have power, you will always have hope. “But hope does not put us to shame, because the love of God has been shed abroad in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us” (Rom. 5:5). The Holy Spirit is God's power. When you have the power of God at work in your life, you have hope for everything. The list of God's promises to you is much longer than your list of worries about a grown child. Any adult child is vulnerable to problems. Even the best kids can still struggle as adults. Your child may be dedicated to God or baptized as an infant, receive the Lord at age two, attend Sunday school for eighteen years and be homeschooled all the time. But, when he or she is out of your control, he or she may still face some serious trials, acquire bad habits, be exposed to unhealthy influences, choose unwanted friends, or suffer the consequences of bad decisions. But good news that God can change all that when you pray. 4. You need to know that you need to stop blaming yourself Let's face it. Children make us feel guilty from the moment they are born. We constantly think: “Am I feeding him too much? Maybe I'm not feeding her enough? Not too-

20 20 The Power of Praying for My Adult Children Who am I doing a lot? Maybe I'm not doing enough? Have I given too much? Maybe I didn't give enough? And what makes it even more difficult is that every child is different. Therefore, what was effective for the first child may not be effective for the second. Our first child was stubborn. From the moment Christopher was able to get up in his crib, he always knew what he wanted to do and when, no matter what his parents wanted. We had to be very firm and consistent in instilling in him the concept of obedience to mom and dad. Our second child was completely different. If Amanda did something wrong, then a serious disapproving look was enough to make her lose her head with fear. Strict discipline would be as destructive to her as weak discipline to her brother. We've always struggled with guilt, trying to figure out if we're being too hard on him or too soft on her. Or, conversely, were we too gentle with him and too harsh with her? But that doesn't mean we haven't made mistakes on both fronts. Sometimes we were too hard or too soft with each of them. We have seen the consequences of both. We had to ask God for wisdom every day. I struggled with guilt over all of this: the things I should have done or said but didn't do and the things I shouldn't have done or said but did. . Guilt is a killer. As parents, we torment ourselves with guilt every time something bad happens to one of our children because we see how we could have acted differently and prevented it. For example, if our child does not get a good grade

21 What every parent of an adult child needs to know 21 in school, we blame ourselves. If she or he can't get along with a friend, it must somehow be our fault. If she or he gets sick or injured, we struggle with what we could have done differently to prevent it. We do the same even when the children are grown. When we see something in our adult child that we feel is wrong or that violates our idea of what it should be, it makes us think: where did we go wrong? When we see a weakness in him or her, we fear that it is our fault. Even if you did something that negatively affected your child, you still need to get over it. Perhaps you regret not being close to him or her enough during their childhood. Or there were some events in the child's life that you missed, but which you should have attended. Perhaps you feel that you have been too strict or too lenient. Or you said something you didn't want to say. Or you should have done something and you didn't. Now you can't change anything, you can't erase it or make it look like it never happened. You need to get out of this state, and this can only be done by the power of the Holy Spirit. Your first assignment in this book is to get rid of guilt! In order to pray effectively for your adult child, you must stop blaming yourself for everything that goes wrong. Here, give credit to God. If you have made mistakes, confess them to the Lord, and also to your adult child, if it will bring you relief. In this way, you can gain the freedom of the forgiveness that God offers you. Ask

22 22 The power of praying for your adult children yourself: “Can I do something about it now?” If yes, then do it. If not, give it to God and ask Him to release you from this situation and heal you in the process. This, of course, assumes that you know the Lord. If you have never accepted Jesus into your life, ask Him to come into your heart now, forgive you for all your sins and mistakes, and fill you with His Holy Spirit. Thank Him that He died on the cross for you so that you could have the remission of sins and eternal life with Him forever and ever. Then ask Him to cleanse you of the results of all past mistakes and wounds and to help you now live in the way that pleases Him. Ask Him to release you from guilt. There are only two ways to avoid guilt as a parent. The first way is to die shortly after the birth of your child. The second is to walk in the ways of God every day and ask Him for wisdom in all things. Listen, the best solution of the two is to walk in the ways of God. When you walk in God's ways, you can not only look to Him for guidance, you can ask Him to release you from any guilt you have as a parent. Of course, there are some parents who never, ever blame themselves. On the contrary, they blame everyone around. They say things like, "My daughter is in trouble because of the other girls she's been with" or "My son is lazy because his father never asked him to do any housework." But throwing the blame on others instead of giving it to God prevents the parent or child from experiencing the great good that God can derive from difficult situations. When a child is forced to admit

“A mother’s prayer will get it from the bottom of the sea” - this proverb has long become a byword. It was not said for the sake of a red word. This is a truth that is relevant at all times, confirmed by countless examples of the amazing power and effectiveness of the prayers of millions of mothers. Holy motherly love is able to overcome any obstacles, achieve the impossible and work real miracles.

Relationships between parents and children are modeled on our relationship with God, our Heavenly Parent. Therefore, the Lord gave parents special authority over their children: Children, be obedient to your parents in everything, for this is pleasing to the Lord (Col. 3:20). The commandment to honor parents is not only a precept, the failure to comply with which is a sin. With its fulfillment, the Lord connected our longevity on earth: Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long on the land which the Lord your God is giving you (Ex. 20:12). The holy apostle Paul says that this is the first commandment with a promise (Eph. 6:2). A son or daughter who offends parents, who openly disregards their authority and power, will face a sad fate. The eye that mocks the father and neglects obedience to the mother will be pecked out by the ravens of the valley, and the eagles will devour it! (Prov. 30:17). The special power of maternal prayer is connected with the power that the Lord God gave to mothers over children. In his Confession, Blessed Augustine illuminated his mother with the most touching words: “You stretched out Your hand from on high and “drew my soul” from this deep darkness, when my mother, Your faithful servant, mourned me before You more than the mothers of dead children mourn . She saw my death in the strength of her faith and the spirit that she had from You - and You heard her, Lord; You heard her and did not despise the tears that watered the earth in streams in every place where she prayed; You heard her” (Confession. Book III. 11.19).

Ripped from the clutches of death

An interesting story was told to me by a former atheist during a recent pilgrimage. The only daughter of Irina S., 15-year-old Anya, was riding a motorcycle with a friend and had a terrible accident. A friend died, and the girl with severe injuries was taken to intensive care. The doctor confessed to the mother that her daughter had very little chance of surviving, and she had to mentally prepare for the worst. Without remembering herself, Irina, without looking into the road, walked out of the hospital, her heart was breaking from grief and hopelessness. She did not believe in God, she never prayed, and then suddenly, obeying a spiritual impulse, she went into the temple, from which people left after the service. A timid hope stirred in her heart, and she prayed: “Lord, if You really exist, help, I beg You, save my Anechka!!!” She prayed long and earnestly, and she felt better. The priest approached, after listening to her story, consoled Irina and advised her not to leave the prayer and believe that with God's help everything would end well. A few months later, the happy mother came to the temple with her daughter to give thanks to God. Anya limped slightly, but felt quite tolerable. Now they are permanent parishioners of the old Moscow church, in which Irina begged for her daughter and gained sincere faith.

Commemoration at the Divine Liturgy (Church note)

Those who have Christian names are remembered for health, and only those baptized in the Orthodox Church are remembered for repose.

Notes can be submitted to the liturgy:

At the proskomidia - the first part of the liturgy, when for each name indicated in the note, particles are taken out of special prosphora, which are subsequently lowered into the Blood of Christ with a prayer for the forgiveness of sins

Many examples God's help mothers can be found on the pages Holy Scripture. The Savior Himself during earthly life many times healed and snatched from the paws of death someone's sons and daughters. Some of the stories are included in the canonical gospels. For example, in the city of Nain, Christ was touched by the grief of a widow who was weeping over the coffin of her only son. Having consoled the unfortunate mother, He said: “Young man! I'm telling you, get up!" And the unbelievable happened - the dead man came to life, sat down in the coffin and began to speak (Lk.7, 12-16). The shocked people rejoiced and praised God, and the mother and her revived son at that moment were probably the happiest people in the world.

Often, family troubles are allowed to people far from spiritual life in order to return them to the true path. Finding themselves in a situation where there is no one else to rely on except God, many mothers and their children learn to pray and radically change their lives for the better.

Muscovite Elena K. had a two-year-old son, Sasha, who was dying of pneumonia in the hospital. Neither droppers nor strong antibiotics helped. The baby wheezed and moaned in the arms of his mother, it seemed that he would not survive another night. Lena was a "believer in her soul", she did not go to church and did not know prayers. She prayed as best she could, begging God to save her son, but it seemed that He did not hear her. Remembering her “very devout” friend, she called her in the middle of the night. Learning about her grief, she called her confessor, and he immediately held a prayer service for the health of the seriously ill baby Alexander. Toward morning, the baby fell asleep soundly, and his breathing improved markedly, wheezing almost stopped, the crisis was over. From the next day, Sasha felt noticeably better, and he quickly began to recover.

It happens that the children of true Christians become seriously ill and find themselves on the verge of life and death. Such trials strengthen faith and stimulate perfection in the spiritual life.

The future Metropolitan Veniamin (Fedchenkov) suffered lobar pneumonia in early childhood and almost died. The mother implored God and the saints to save her son, and made a vow to make a pilgrimage on foot to the relics of St. Mitrofan of Voronezh, revered in the family. Her son recovered, and she fulfilled her vow by walking a more than 200-kilometer route from her native village of Vyazhly, Tambov province, to Voronezh, and then back. After that, for the sake of the health and well-being of her children, she vowed to God to strictly fast not only every Wednesday and Friday, but also on Mondays, and strictly observed this rule all her life.

In a similar situation, the mother of the future bishop, the Orthodox ascetic Trifon (Turkestanov), beloved by the people, found herself in the early 60s of the 19th century. While begging for her dying son Borya, Varvara Alexandrovna prayed especially fervently to the holy martyr Tryphon and promised that if the boy recovered, she would try to dedicate him to the service of God. About this maternal vow future saint learned only many years later, when, at the behest of the soul, he became a monk, taking the name of his heavenly patron.

In Greece, on the island of Euboea, the relics of the holy miracle worker John the Russian are kept. There are many examples when people who prayed to him were healed of cancer. The book “Tears of a Mother” describes a case when, in a poor Cypriot family from the city of Limassol, two brothers of 6 and 8 years old were slowly dying from leukemia. Once their parents bought an icon of the saint, and the mother began to pray: “Saint John, I beg you, make sure that my children get well! Visit our house and heal my sons!” The condition of the children has improved markedly. They did a blood test, and it turned out that everything is normal! But until recently, tests showed a severe form of the disease, and doctors believed that the children would not last long. Happy parents and sons came to the miraculous relics and with tears thanked God and His holy saint John...

From time immemorial, motherly prayers have saved people from inevitable death on land and at sea. In the book of sermons, Archimandrite Kronid (Lubimov) cites as an example the story of the Smolensk landowner Ekaterina Dudinskaya, who lived in St. Petersburg, and her son. In 1842, on the eve of seeing off his beloved son, an officer, on a long voyage, his mother was tormented by bad forebodings. Arriving at Tsarskoye Selo, Katerina served a prayer service before miraculous icon"The Omen Mother of God"And prayed for a long time on her knees, asking:" Queen of Heaven, I entrust my son to You and all my hope is on You, You will return him to me from the bottom of the sea!

On the way, the ship "Ingermanland" was caught in a terrible storm. In the Skagerrak Strait off the coast of Norway, the ship received a hole, hitting a stone, and sank. About 400 people died. The captain and many officers, including Dudinsky, were washed off the deck by the waves at the time of the crash. Feeling inevitable death, he began to pray: “Holy Mother of God, save me! Save at least for the sake of my mother's prayers! A wave covered him, and he lost consciousness, and when he woke up, he realized that he was lying on the shore near the water, alive and unharmed.

Return from darkness

Many good believing mothers have had occasion to worry about their children perishing in the maelstrom of a vicious, dissolute life. Some have spent many years in affliction, humbly waiting and hoping. Their holy tears and prayers were not in vain.

A vivid example from the past is the life of St. Aurelius Augustine. The son of a pagan and a Christian, Augustine was a dissolute fellow in childhood and youth. Studying away from his homeland, he got involved with bad companies, walked left and right, became an adherent of a heretical sect, and blasphemed God. His mother Monica was horrified by the antics of her beloved child. For more than 10 years, she spent days and nights in tears, begging God to reason with Augustine and save his perishing soul. The implored son not only reformed and escaped the torments of hell, but also became a great holy ascetic, a respected bishop and confessor, and a world-famous theologian and writer. They also canonized Monica, who is considered the patroness of mothers in the Western Church.

Not only a holy ascetic, but also any simple woman who has love and humility in her heart can change a lost child for the better. The son of one of the parishioners of the church where my confessor serves, for many years caused mental pain to his mother. He drank black, constantly changed mistresses, did not believe in God or in hell. After another binge, 32-year-old Andrei became very ill, had a heart attack, and he fell, having experienced something like clinical death. He never believed in "priest's tales", but then, willy-nilly, he had to believe that hell exists - he experienced such a vivid and terrible vision. He was on fire, unable to move either hand or foot, and eerie infernal monsters grinned around him. He was in unbearable pain and fear, and it seemed that this torture lasted an eternity. When he finally woke up, he saw that he was lying across the sofa, and his mother was praying in front of the icons, begging God to have mercy on her son. On the same day, Andrei asked his mother for forgiveness and went to the temple for the first confession in his life. With drinking and partying, he tied up and began a new life.

Indestructible Psalter

The indestructible Psalter is read not only about health, but also about repose. From ancient times, the ordering of a commemoration on the Unsleeping Psalter is considered a great almsgiving for the departed soul.

It is also good to order the Indestructible Psalter for yourself, support will be vividly felt. And one more important point, but far from the least important,
There is an eternal commemoration on the Indestructible Psalter. It seems expensive, but the result is more than a million times more than the money spent. If this is still not possible, then you can order for a shorter period. It's also good to read for yourself.

Guests from beyond

A child is born under the mother's heart and lives a single life with her for a long time. The invisible mystical connection between a child and a mother can last a lifetime. And even death does not always break the bonds of maternal love.

In September 1941, pilot Pavel Ignatievich Ch. was shot down over the Gulf of Finland. He managed to land the burning plane on the water. He tried to open the hatch, but it was jammed. In desperation, he pulled on the main handle with such force that the steel handle bent. The plane began to sink. Pavel realized that it looked like he was finished. Suddenly, in a ghostly haze, he clearly saw his dead mother, Natalya Yegorovna, in front of him. She encouraged him and reminded him of another way to open the hatch in an emergency. And he managed to get out literally at the last moment, when the plane was already almost completely submerged in water. Spent two hours in cold water trying to swim to shore. When he was already exhausted, he was picked up and rescued by a patrol ship passing by.

An even more amazing story was told in one of the stories by the writer and journalist Vladimir Krupin. A woman approached his friend, Hieromonk Pavel, on the street and asked him to go to her son and confess him. She named the address. But the priest got busy and did not comply with the request. A day later, early in the morning, he again met the same stranger. She literally begged him to go to her son.

Batiushka was opened by a young man. From his appearance, it was clear that he was drinking heavily and brought himself to the handle. Father Pavel told him about his mother's request and the purpose of his visit. “Come on, lie, my mother has been dead for five years!” - he got angry. There were photographs on the wall in the apartment, and among them the priest saw a photo of the same woman: “Here she is! It was this woman who asked to visit you! In response, the guy tried to be rude: “So, you from the other world have come after me?” But after a long, serious conversation, he wilted and promised to come to the temple the next morning. During confession, he was shaking with sobs. He repented that shortly before his mother's death, he kicked her out of the house, and for the last months she lived with friends, and was buried by strangers. That same evening, Father Pavel met his mother again. She was very joyful, thanked the priest, and said that her son was forgiven, and she had already seen him. The next day, the priest learned that right on the day of confession, the guy died of a heart attack. It turns out that the love and prayers of the mother were so strong that she was able to come from the other world and have time literally in last days son's life to save his soul.

A similar story happened in Stavropol in 1954. A woman came to Archpriest Peter Sukhonosov with a request to visit and give communion to her terminally ill son, a retired officer, and dictated the address. Father Peter went into an unlocked apartment and found a seriously ill man lying in bed. “I didn’t invite any priests!” - said the patient. The priest told him about his mother's request, identified the woman from the photo in the album, and was surprised to learn that she died 3 years ago. The officer was persuaded to confess and take communion, and soon after that he died.

Father Peter himself was a very respected and beloved pastor among the people, and he gave his all to people. Since 1960 he served in Ingushetia. In 1999, he was kidnapped and brutally killed by Chechen bandits. Now materials are being collected for the canonization of the new martyr of our time.

If Prayer Doesn't Help

Sometimes the help expected from God never comes, as if He does not hear prayers. But in any case, you should not despair. From the point of view of the Christian meaning of life, it is better for some people to die in time and be saved for Eternal Life than to survive, but then ruin their soul. Nothing happens by chance with God, and He takes a person to Himself at the moment of his best spiritual state and the greatest readiness for salvation in Eternity. Or when the spiritual fall becomes irreversible.

The poet and Decembrist Kondraty Ryleev was supposed to die in early childhood. But the mother begged for a seriously ill three-year-old son, literally demanding God to heal him. She was not even stopped by the warning of the Mother of God, who appeared to her in a thin dream, saying: “Come to your senses, do not pray for recovery ... The Lord Omniscient out of goodness, out of His mercy, wants to save him and you from future suffering ...” The mothers hinted that her son if he recovers, he will end his life on the gallows. But she did not want to believe it, and hoped that everything would work out. Kondraty survived, and, alas, the predicted accuracy came true. For active participation in the coup d'état, the 30-year-old poet and official Ryleev was sentenced to hang and executed along with four leaders of the uprising. The only consolation for the mother was the fact that before his death he repented and went into Eternity as a humble Christian.

The inability and unwillingness to come to terms with God's Providence can play a very cruel joke on a person. I have heard a sad story that happened to a resident of Yekaterinburg, Tatyana V. Her 8-year-old daughter Katya became seriously ill. Prayers did not help, and one morning she found her daughter lying in bed, lifeless and cold. The mother, distraught with grief, came to the temple and became hysterical. She threw reproaches to God, the Mother of God and the saints for not hearing her prayers and not helping, and broke into blasphemy. After that, she fainted. In a state of altered consciousness, she saw a dazzling light, and an unearthly voice told her: “Your daughter was pure and blameless, angels were waiting for her in paradise. But be your way. Go, she's alive!" Waking up, Tatyana ran home and saw Katya - alive. The mother's joy knew no bounds.

But happiness was short-lived. Every year the daughter's character deteriorated more and more. Already in adolescence Katya offended her mother in every possible way, left home, led a wild life. From such disappointments, Tatyana was offended by God and stopped going to church. In her youth, the daughter, it seems, began to settle down, even entered the institute. But, in the midst of her studies ... Katya committed suicide by swallowing pills because of unrequited love. The heartbroken mother went to the monastery in order to beg for the unlucky child until the end of her days.

And it also happens that God, it would seem, for years ignores the prayers of a mother asking to help her child in trouble, but in the end the story has a good ending. And the cause of "deafness" is God's desire to correct a person, for whom premature concessions can only do a disservice.

A resident of the Moscow region, Alexander S. was from a poor family, but from school he was friends with the "golden youth" - the sons of officials and "new Russians". Together with them, he became addicted to drugs, became rude and unbearable. Once their company was caught red-handed, having found a decent amount of potion from the guys. Friends were smeared off by high-ranking parents, and Sasha was made a "scapegoat" and sentenced to 4 years in a colony. His mother, Olga Ivanovna, really hoped for an amnesty and prayed to God for the release of her son. But instead, for a fight in the “zone” and causing grievous bodily harm, his sentence was doubled. With great difficulty, the mother survived such injustice. Hands fell - what's the point of praying if God does not hear her?!

After serving 8 years, the son was released as a completely different person. The “zone” spoils many people, but on the contrary, it corrected him. Sasha became serious and wise, gained Orthodox faith. Apparently, it was just such a long time that he needed to humility, correct and completely get rid of drug passion. Sasha's friends, as it turned out, are no longer alive. Some died from overdose and disease, others were killed, two committed suicide. Alexander studied as an icon painter, successfully married, and has two children. After so many years of ordeals, life finally turned to face Olga and her son, and began to resemble a kind happy fairy tale.

Sorokousty is a prayer service that is performed by the Church daily for forty days. Every day during this period, particles are removed from the prosphora.
The elder Schema-Archimandrite Zosima noted that the entire history of mankind is measured in "weeks and forties." “For forty days Christ appeared to his disciples, staying on earth until the feast of the Ascension of the Lord. The holy feast is the fortieth day of the Ascension of the Lord. Easter, everything goes by magpies, weeks and magpies. And the history of mankind also goes by weeks and magpies. Sorokousts are ordered for health, especially for seriously ill patients.

Lord, heal him of all diseases, cleanse him of all filth (wine, tobacco, drugs) and ease his mental suffering and sorrow.

Lord, grant him the grace of the Holy Spirit for many years of life, and health, and chastity.

Lord, grant me, unworthy and sinful servant of Yours, a parental blessing on my child in the coming mornings, days, evenings and nights, for the sake of Your name, for Your Kingdom is eternal, omnipotent and omnipotent. A mother's prayerful sigh for her children

God! Keep them in a blessed state until the end of life; make them worthy to be partakers of the Mysteries of Your Testament; sanctify with thy truth; may your holy name be sanctified in them and through them! Send me your grace-filled help in their upbringing for the glory of your name and the good of your neighbor! Grant me methods, patience and strength for this purpose! Teach me to plant in their hearts the root of true wisdom - your fear! Illuminate them with the light of Your Wisdom! Keep them in chastity and reverence for Your name, so that they do not discredit Your Church with their behavior, but live according to its instructions! Inspire them with a desire for useful learning and make them capable of every good deed, so that they acquire a true understanding of those subjects whose information is necessary in their state, and be enlightened with knowledge that is beneficial for mankind. God! Teach me to imprint with indelible features in the mind and heart of my children the fear of fellowship with those who do not know Your fear, to inspire them with every possible distance from any union with the lawless, so that they do not heed rotten conversations, so that bad examples will not lead them astray from Your path, so that they will not be tempted by it. that sometimes the way of the wicked is prosperous in this world. Heavenly Father! Grant me the grace to be careful in every possible way to give my children the temptation of my actions. But constantly keeping in mind their behavior, distract them from their errors, correct their errors, curb their stubbornness and obstinacy, refrain from striving for vanity and frivolity, let them not be carried away by foolish thoughts, let them not follow their hearts, let them not become proud in thought. theirs, may they not forget you and your law, may the iniquity of their mind and health not destroy, may the sins of their spiritual and bodily strength not weaken. Father of bounty and all mercy! As a parent, I would wish my children every abundance of earthly blessings, I would wish them blessings from the dew of heaven and from the fat of the earth, but may Thy holy will be with them! Arrange their fate according to Your good pleasure, do not deprive them of their daily bread in life, send down to them everything necessary in time for the acquisition of blessed eternity; be merciful to them when they sin against you; impute not to them the sins of youth and their ignorance; bring contrite hearts to them when they resist the guidance of thy goodness; punish them and have mercy, directing them to the path pleasing to You, but do not reject them from Your face! Accept their prayers with favor, grant them success in every good deed, do not turn Your face away from them in the days of their sorrow, so that their temptations will not overtake them beyond their strength. Overshadow them with Your mercy, may Your Angel walk with them and save them from every misfortune and evil path. Almighty God! Make me a mother rejoicing over her children, may they be my joy in the days of my life and my support in my old age. Deign me, with hope in Your mercy, to stand with them at Your Last Judgment and with shameless boldness to say: “Here I am and my children whom You have given me, Lord!” Yes, together with them, glorifying Thy inexpressible goodness and eternal love, I exalt Thy most holy name, Father, Son and Holy Soul, forever and ever. Amen.
